Why marry?

I like antiquated things.

Marriage is mainly a legal process regardless of what all the religious nuts say. Also, being married is accepted by the majority of the American population whereas shacking up is considered immoral and wrong. The only people that seem to agree with shacking up are young people that enjoy sleeping around and don't want marriage to interfere with their lifestyle.

If that person means enough to you, then why not get married and show a commitment on your part? There is no commitment when shacking up, living together, co-habitating ,or whatever you want to call it. Shacking up is degrading moreso to the woman than the man. If the man is just living with a woman, then oftentimes he feels it acceptable to "do" that hot-assed girl at work. Why not? He's not married. The same attitude applies to some women as well.

Umm, to ensure a stable, safe environment for children to grow up in?

One look at the devastating effect divorce has on kids and see why marriage is necessary. Look even further at what happens in inner cities when there is a trail of boyfriends uninterested in the welfare of their girlfriend's children.

For the part of the married person, knowing that the person will be there for you until death, and gives everything totally and completely to you, helps you enter more deeply into a satisfying relationship.

Marriage is a life long commitment to stand United as one no matter what circumstances the couple comes to be in. This includes illness, the loss of a child, the loss or gain of wealth, the circumstances at work, and failure to connect as a couple.

If you do not believe that marriage is for life than there is no point in getting married.

yep. We were taught that origins of wedding bands came from slavery. The masters would put rings around the necks of their slaves. That turned into women being subservient to men.

Why keep an institution that has such an abusive ancestry?

If you love someone enough that you want to live your life with them, then you'll probably want to marry. Living your life with someone are the general implications for marriage, if we leave the legal and religious parts out.

The girl gets to wear a pretty dress, it's one of the few occasions the guy wears a tux and if one of you guys cheat you will have actually have a decent reason to be jealous.And if you hate your last name, a good reason to change it.

marrigae isn't about religion, its about loving somone so much that you want to make a public declaration of that love. It's a way of telling the world (your family) that you are planning a life withthis person, and giving them the opportunity to invite them into your family as one of their own.

i completely agree, i dont believe in the term monogamy, the very thought of spending the rest of my life with the one person, is so mundane and pointless, that it hurts my head to even think about it! so there you go!
