Just out of curiosity..if one partner wanted a tattoo and the other partner really hated them what do you do?
a young guy that works with my bf just got his gf's name put in his lip! thats what made me think of it. its not like you can take it off or only wear it one day, and the person who hates them would have to look at it everyday, its not like a bad outfit that you can change.

Honestly, temporary tattoos are probably the best way to go. It's a compromise...he (or she) gets the tattoo, but his/her partner gets to take them off...which can be sexy in its own way.

I agree, I find tatoos on woman look tacky and trashy. It just screams out, 'bar star'. I like one or two on a man, my boyfriend wants to get my name tatood on him to cover up an old home made tatoo. But we've been together for over a year and live together. I don't know if I'd let him, because if we ever broke up he would be stuck with it. It depends; a lot of people would never consider getting their bf or gf's name tattood on them. My brothers ex girlfriend had his initials tatood on her; they were together for two years and now they are split up for good. :S

if that is what the person wants that is what the person should get, who are you or anyone else to dictate to another on what they should and should not do, but personally peoples names are a no go area.
