Why did Microsoft Word become Microsoft Works Word Processor on my laptop?

My laptop used to have Microsoft Office but the trial version expired so I installed the Microsoft Office I have from my other computer. Lately, I just noticed that it's no longer called Word but Word Processor. Is this an older version? Newer version?

MS Works is a scaled down version of Word that often came with new computers. If your trial ran out and you installed an "Office" disk that came with your other computer, it probably is/was these scaled down versions of the programs.

If it is a full version of Office, uninstall everything and try installing again. If that doesn't work and you truly need the full version, you'll have to pony up the bucks to get it. If you don't use any advanced functions, it's no big deal. Just keep using Works.

MS Word is the newer name for the same line of product - it was known as MS Works prior to the release of Windows98
