How should I repair this chimney?

The top part of the chimney seems okay. The bottom part, previously encased in concrete, is failing. What repair options are available? Can the bricks be replaced? Or must the entire chimney come down?

Any ideas would be much appreciated! How soon is this likely to fall?

Update:

Note: this chimney is in a very remote part of the American West, where contractors are few and far between.

In terms of replacement, how much would a complete rebuild of this chimney cost?

You're going to have to take that whole thing down and start from the ground up.

Man, that's scary just looking at those photos.

That's an accident just waiting to happen.

You can reuse the same bricks... they appear in good shape. It's the mortar that has simply disintegrated completely in that area.

I don't think you can pull that one area out and replace it for fear of the rest of the structure collapsing on you.

Best to play it safe on this one.

From what I can see it looks like you could just replace the bricks. But you need to have someone come and look down the chimney itself. if the liner is fine then you don't need to do much. My concern it the fuel oil barrel sitting so close to the chimney, if the bricks do come down it can cause holes in the oil barrel
