You need to use jewelry cleaner, unless you have a steamer of some kind. If you have one of those Scunsi steamers, use some long handled pliers to hold on to the ring so you don't burn your fingers.

The best jewelry cleaner I use is called Connoisseurs. It is even recommend by Good Housekeeping. It's available at Kmart, Walmart, Rite Aid, or www.connoisseurs.com. It makes your jewelry just sparkle! I'm not sure whether your ring is white or yellow gold. Almost all White Gold has a Rhodium Plating over it, which from time to time needs to be re-plated. It costs around $15 - $35. Also, toothpaste is best used on un-plated Silver jewelry, as it can wear off the rhodium faster because of its gritty texture. If all else fails have your jeweler clean it. Some places will do this for free!

Swing by the jewelry store next time you're near by and ask them to steam clean it. Don't use toothpaste of anything else that isn't specifically dedicated to cleaning diamonds.

Yes, diamonds are tough rocks...but they're friggen expensive so don't mess around!! There are also little machines that you hook up w/ water and some vinegar that use sonic vibrations to clean your jewelry.
