I enjoy: - witty, somewhat sarcastic humor - going out to the bars with my girl friends - staying in to play with my boyfriend - economics - makeup/perfume/jewelry - odd music that most people don't know about - swimming; beach, ocean or my bathtub (with lots of bubble bath) I don't care - ensalada caprese

  • Name of creepy (Disney?) movie with wolves in the woods and an evil nanny?

I'm looking for a movie I saw when I was younger, probably late 80's to mid 90's. It takes place at the turn of the 20th century and there's a young girl working in a factory. Another girl's hair is caught in a machine and gets scalped (I was traumatized but kept watching).

Then this orphan is sent to live with some family far away in the woods (there is a lot of snow). They have a daughter the same age and the mother is ill. The parents go off to live somewhere warmer b/c of the mom's illness and the two girls are left with a nanny person who is evil. There are lots of wolves in this movie and they eventually eat the nanny. The movie is nowhere to be found on this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Disney_featur... so I believe it may not be a Disney production, but merely was aired on the channel.

Anyone else remember this creepy kids movie??

Of the following choices, which would you pick? I've had all of them and like them all, just having trouble deciding today...

    1) fresh mozzarella, basil pesto & tomato on focaccia

    2) roasted lamb, tomato chutney & goat cheese

    3) smoked turkey, Vermont cheddar & cranberry chutney

    4) Buffalo chicken with special blue cheese sauce, tomato and lettuce on a wheat wrap

  • Road Rage - how do you handle it?

Today a man in a silver 5 series BMW nearly rear-ended me while I was attempting to turn left (had my blinker on, slow traffic in general so it wasn't a sudden stop). He leaned on his horn and I know for a fact I cannot type out the profanities he yelled at me. I was enthralled with him and then put my car and park and didn't budge as he went on and on and on. I stepped out and said "are you done?" (I realize this isn't smart, but I live in a small, quiet suburb so I decided my risk was minimal). I explained to him that I was following the rules of the road and that he had a HUGE problem. Among other things.

How do you all deal with incredibly stupid people who make it their mission in life to be as rude and disgusting as possible? It really upset me! Do any of you use www.platewire.com ?

Mr. Yellow-Polo shirt man in the BMW who almost hit me outside Atlantic Bagel in Hingham, I hope Karma bites you in your sagging rear end. I'm glad you got your dry cleaning, though.

  • Are you sick of the Derek and Meredith Drama on Grey's?

I am - I really love Grey's Anatomy but I feel the Derek/Meredith storyline is tired. They keep adding in so much junk to their relationship that it strays too far from a realistic plot that I can buy-in to. It's to the point where I am not surprised by anything that happens... Meredith needs to deal with her emotional crap (that she's been dealing with since the show began and has only escalated) and get over herself.

On the other hand, I feel that we're supposed to be annoyed w/ their relationship to allow for the potential split on tonight's episode...and if they split I will be so relieved!

    How about all of you?

  • Secrets to fabulous nails?

I have fairly brittle nails - they peel and tear. I've been using Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus for two months. They have improved a bit but I'm not that impressed. I also take a multi vitamin with calcium and use Nailtiques cuticle and nail oil.

I seem to be doing all the right things but my nails are still crappy! Does anyone know of anything will will actually result in nice nails?

  • Factory Girl?

Hey guys, I saw Factory Girl tonight. Just wondering if anyone else has seen it and what you thought of it. Has anyone heard of any biographical pieces on Edie Sedgwick? For some reason her story, and her character in the movie, really drew me in and I want to learn more about her.

I loved the movie and want to see it again!

  • Freakonomics Regression?!?

Hey guys - I've been searching high and low for the research behind Steve Levitt's chapter on "Where Have all the Criminals Gone?" I NEED to get my hands on the coefficients of the variables used in his regression....and haven't had any luck online.

I guess it's drawn from "Understanding Why Crime Fell in the 1990's: Four factors that explain the decline and six that don't." Which was in Journal of Economics Perspectives 18, no. 1 (2004), pp 163-90.

I know it's kind of obscure, but would love any help I can get - if anyone has seen the data...played around with significance of the betas used, etc. I will be forever grateful!

    Ciao!

  • Eyelash tinting?

I have a fair complexion - my eyelashes are so blonde they're pretty much invisible. I do love make up and mascara is one of my best friends...but it would be nice to run out of the house w/o needing to put on make up in order to give definition to my eyes.

What's the eyelash tinting process like? Are the results worth the cost or should I just stick to mascara? What type of area do you live in (rural, suburban, urban) and how much do you pay for this service?

I have a great spa nearby which I trust - but it's pricey and wanted some unbiased opinions before throwing down the cash.

    Thanks! And Merry Christmas!

  • Can I upload text messages from my RAZR to my comp?

As I said, I have a RAZR (and Verizon, if that matters).

I was wondering if there's a way to plug my phone into my computer and save my texts to my computer - and even my phone book.

...it's just slowin' down my phone so much having them stored in the phone!!

    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to remove dry latex paint from fabric!?

I know I should have reacted quickly when I got the paint on my pants but, alas, I did not. (P.S I also realize it was dumb to paint in my favorite yoga pants).

But is there any way to get spots of latex paint off of fabric? It isn't a dense area of paint...scratching it off w/ my nails seems to work but that could take all day.

Just didn't know if there was a trick anybody knew of!

Thanks for reading my question, have a nice day :-)

  • Has he become indifferent or lazy?

He and I have been dating a year - and I couldn't be more crazy about him. I still get a little rush when I'm driving over to his house. He isn't the most touchy-feely guy, but it seems that he's less eager to, say, hold my hand in public (nothing PDA, of course!); kiss me hello/goodbye, etc. than when we began dating.

Tonight we went to dinner and a movie and when we got back to his house I went to hug him and started to kiss him on his neck and he did reciprocate - just stood there. I got annoyed (in my head) so I gathered my things and politely made my exit. I might be thinking in an overly sensitive fashion - but though I'd throw this one out to the guys...

It's tough to really outline the situation in a short space so I'll just say this:

After dating a woman for a while do stop doing the things you did at the beginning (hand holding, caressing) because you think "she's hooked, now I can relax" or because you become less interested.

  • What's your favorite calzone filling combination?

Just a fun question to get you all distracted at work!

...feeling kinda hungry and I'm thinking about ordering a calzone from the ritzy (but yummy) new pizza shop they just opened up downtown for dinner tonight.

There are three kinds of cheese that come in it already...and then you pick some add-ins. I was thinking sundried tomatoes and prociutto?

    What do you guys think?

  • What do all you relationship experts think?

I have been with the same guy, "Dan," for about 11 months. He is wonderful to me in everyway and I couldn't ask for a better guy.

Last Saturday night it my night w/ the girls/his night w/ the boys. I got a phone call from a friend. My friend claims to have seen my boyfriend "with another girl, with his hands all over her and kissing."

The location of this "sighting" was very poorly lit; my friend has prescription glasses but doesn't wear them and lastly, he's only met my boyfriend twice and it's been at least six months since they last saw each other.

I confronted my boyfriend. I told him what my friend said and asked him if he was with another girl. He said no.

I don't want to be naieve and just keeping falling for Dan more and more and get hurt months down the line - but I also don't want to throw away a wonderful relationship over an allegation that is most likely false. I have no reason to believe Dan would ever cheat on me.

    Any sage words?

  • Men: will you sleep with a woman even if you aren't attracted to her?

Over my lifetime I've seen couples who were together for all the wrong reasons. A close friend of mine is currently seeing someone she isn't sexually attracted to b/c she enjoys the companionship, is afraid of she won't find someone else, and the sex is decent (in spite of the fact she feels no sexual desires for him). She isn't actually repulsed by him, but prefers to keep things "in the dark." Literally. I'm telling you this as background, no need to judge my friend's issues...she has me...and her shrink...on-call and trust me, I'm trying to get her to realize there's more to a relationship than a warm body next to you in bed.

My question, men, is this: will a man stay in a relationship with a woman if he isn't attracted to her? My guy friends claim that a "dude" simply won't continue dating and sleeping with a woman if he isn't feeling the chemistry. If you have lead a person on, how long did this continue?

Just wondering - thanks for your time!

  • Do you suffer from this horrendous problem, too?

Are you addicted to pizza? Do you crave it everyday? Do you consider pizza from different pizza joints a completely different product - and therefore, eating pizza from a different place every night isn't actually repitious? Do you sometimes workout extra hard at the gym so you can have an extra slice of pizza for dinner? Do people actually point out that you might have a pizza-problem?

I could eat Pizzeria Regina (North End, Boston) EVERY DAY. Good lord.

This question is clearly just for s**ts and giggles...b/c people make fun of me b/c I am always in the mood for pizza. It's to the point now where, if someone wants to establish what to get/where to go for dinner it's: "What do you wanna do for dinner...BESIDES pizza?"

...Just wondering if I'm the only one. Probably not, though, since pizza is amazing.

  • Is it democracy at work here?

Why is it that so many people do not select a "best answer" for their question? I have developed two possible conclustions:

    1) People are indifferent; they post random questions then leave it be b/c they don't really care

    2) They want to leave it up to "the people" - so they let their question go to voting to allow the rest of us a chance to vote.

Your input is appreciated. I'm just trying to delve into the human psyche...I know I enjoy reading the responses and find that selecting a best answer is part of the interest on Y!A.

  • Too upset to sleep? Goebbels Children...?

Tonight I watched "Downfall" (Der Untergung). You don't really need to know about the movie, but it showed a very well known occurance:

Magda Goebbels had her children take morphine before bed. While they were knocked out she killed them with cianide. This all took place in the Fuhrerbunker in Berlin; Madga and her husband, Joseph, saw "no other way" to avoid Russian capture - which they feared would be far worse than death.

As Russian artillery approached Berlin, and Hitler and his new wife Eva committed suicide, Madga set to work to kill her 6 children then she and her husband walked outside where he shot her, then himself.

All judgements, analysis and arguments aside, I am upset. I did some reasearch on the family and just feel sad about all the tragedy during that time. I don't have anyone to talk to right now and wanted to "put this out there, " hoping it would help me to feel better. Don't know why, but this is just sticking with me right now...thanks for reading

  • BOSTON area residents: Orange Line death??

Yesterday there was a lot of backed-up traffic on the Orange Line...rumor had it some guy died on the tracks. Then last night (June 26, 2006) there was a news report - a man was found on the third rail. It was unclear if he intentionally threw himself or fell, and if he was struck by a train or if it was the third rail that killed him.

I've conducted a THOROUGH search via Google and every Boston news site - there is NOTHING!

So, did anyone see the report last nite? I was watching the news before bed and saw the quick clip of a guy being taken out of an orange line station on a stretcher all sealed up and ready for the morgue.

Did ANYBODY else see this? There's a debate in my office this morning as to the validity of my claim; but I'm not makin' this up, I saw it on the news I swear!!

I feel like I need some more side dishes, though...does anybody have any great recipes or ideas for side dishes?!?

    Thanks for your help!

  • American National Anthem...in Spanish??

As an American citizen how do you feel about the recent recording and release of "Nuestro Himno," a Spanish version of the "Star Spangled Banner"? The creators claimed they were doing this to provide Spanish-speakers who wanted to become American (or just come to the U.S) a way to "show solidarity with undocumented migrants" Adam Kidron, President of UBO Records.

Some of the words were changed, so it is not a direct translation.

If you live in a different country, what would your reaction be if your country's national anthem was re-written in a different language? I understand that there is no national language in the U.S. How come this wasn't done when there was an influx of Italian/German, etc immigrants previously in history (when there was certainly a lot of public animosity).

    Please provide a thought-out answer...
