Road Rage - how do you handle it?

Today a man in a silver 5 series BMW nearly rear-ended me while I was attempting to turn left (had my blinker on, slow traffic in general so it wasn't a sudden stop). He leaned on his horn and I know for a fact I cannot type out the profanities he yelled at me. I was enthralled with him and then put my car and park and didn't budge as he went on and on and on. I stepped out and said "are you done?" (I realize this isn't smart, but I live in a small, quiet suburb so I decided my risk was minimal). I explained to him that I was following the rules of the road and that he had a HUGE problem. Among other things.

How do you all deal with incredibly stupid people who make it their mission in life to be as rude and disgusting as possible? It really upset me! Do any of you use www.platewire.com ?

Mr. Yellow-Polo shirt man in the BMW who almost hit me outside Atlantic Bagel in Hingham, I hope Karma bites you in your sagging rear end. I'm glad you got your dry cleaning, though.

Update:

www.Platewire.com is a site where you can post the license plate number, auto make/type and location for all to see. You also add details about the incident in which some jerk inevitably tried to end your life via vehicular homicide b/c s/he was in a hurry to get first in line at the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru.

You can also post plate numbers of people who you think are "hot," or "award" them for doing something abnormally kind on the roadways.

The best I have found for this is the 'Ghandi' approach. Don't meet rage with rage or even attitude. Usually these people are so stressed or wack that that will just inflame the situation.

Tailgaters for example, I just simply slow way down until they simply give up and pass. Sometimes I get the one finger salute, but mostly they just pass on their way to bug someone else.

So, just let them vent, realize them for the stressed out idiots they are and be glad you have a better life than they do!

Hmm, not sure I have any major road rage issues. But, this annoying person at work kept taking up 3 spaces on purpose as if to protect her car. So one day I left a note on her windshield that said "sorry I scratched your car, but I guess if it had been between the yellow lines like a normal person, this wouldn't have happened. Oops!" I didn't really even scratch her car, but I watched her get to her car, take the note off, read it, then walk all around her car about 5 times trying to figure out where it was scratched. The next day she parked normally - between the yellow lines even!

Don't worry about those kind of people. They will become apoplogetic when they rear-end someone, get the ticket, have to pay a higher insurance premium and be without their vehicles for awhile. Their egos deflate for awhile until they restart their campaign for higher insurance premiums again. Then eventually they begin to wonder why they are paying so much for insurance and start to whine about the cost.

No I say don't worry about them, their day will come!

I was cut off one day, and of course the driver had to use his finger also when he realized what he did, I followed him for about 30 minutes as he left the freeway and took various side streets never speeding or disobeying traffic laws I know he was nervous and got him thinking about what he had done, I myself have no ideal what would have happened if he did stop the car and wanted a confrontation.

I stay away from them because they have temporarily lost control of their emotions. They would do things they normally would not do and that includes hurt someone. A car is for transportation and not for the venting of angry emotions. Just look and get away from them and don't give them the audience they want!

Ignore them. You have no reason to deal with low class people with no respect. It is pointless to argue with them, they wont understand, so, simply, don't even bother talking to those kind of people.

I personnaly don't get road rage but anyone who steps out of their car I put up my fists and say let's go. They usually back down in a hurry.

Hey that was me! lol jk! I can only afford a silver Rav4 haha

I know how you feel! This happens alot to me. I've learned to just wave and smile and move on. People like that are not worth risking your life over, you know? And who knows what that person had just been through and they are probably just taking it out on you. We all take out our problems on something or someone else.

What is platewire? Please let us know, thanks.
