Passports in maiden name?

Can a newly married British woman travel to France with a passport in her maiden name and a marriage certificate?

Thank you

Update:

I have tried contacting the French consulate in London but have not managed to speak to anyone. Just on hold until I get a recorded message in French.

I looked on the UK passport agency sate but could not find a list of countries that accept marriage certificates.

The tickets are my fiancée’s maiden name.

I am an American living in the UK and have my passport/visa etc in my maiden name, even though I use my married name. As long as your wife's tickets have the name as it show up on the passport, and as long as she has a valid visa to return to the UK, it's OK. I have travelled back and forth to the US to visit my folks with my young son in tow. I thought it was going to be a bunch of bother because his passport is under my married name even though my passport still has my maiden name on it. However, it was no trouble at all. As long as you have valid passports, have your tickets state your name as it appears on the passport and have valid visa that allow you entry and residence in the UK, you should be fine. If you are still worried, phone the French passport/visa control and ask them.

If your passport is still in your maiden name and your tickets are as well then there's no problem how do they know you were recently even wed?

If your tickets are in your married name but your passort hasn't been changed bring your marriage certificate and any other ID that has been changed to your new name. Passports take a while to change so I am sure they would be understanding. Call the airline in advance to see if they can change your name to your maiden name if you think it will be a problem.

When we go on honeymoon my tickets are booked in my maiden name. You can either do this or get the name changed in her passport in advance, you need a certificate from the person conducting the wedding.

Surely if her tickets are in her maiden name, and her passport is in her maiden name, you wont have a problem!

contact the embassy and ask just keep ringing til you get through.

when are you going away, it'll only take a couple of weeks to get a new passport if your bothered about it. (we just done my daughters and it was back within 2 weeks (although that was very fast).

My wife and I carry our marriage certificate when we travel. She uses her Chinese name(maiden name) on her passport, which is recognized internationally, because most of the world population of wives, retain their maiden name after marriage.

In America, our checking account has my name and her Chinese name. We are observing her culture, since a marriage is supposed to be fifty-fifty.

A marriage in another country is as legal as one in a western country. China is 5000 years old and America is not even 300 years old. Who is more right?

How many people remember John Lennon and Yoko Ono? Her birth certificate read, "Yoko Ono." This was revealed on a 60 Minutes segment when they aired their special entitled, "Dragon Lady."

My British passport is in my maiden (and only) name, and I never thought to bring my marriage certificate. Do you mean she has tickets in her married name?

Yes, my wife did this when we went on vacation and didn't have time to get it changed. Don't forget the marriage certificate though!

Alternatively just book the tickets in her maiden name to avoid any problems or risk.

    Happy travels!!

your name should be whatever name you take at the time of your marriage. after you return from your wedding trip (using the marriage license to show the name change), you should get a new passport using DS5504 in your new name.

    NO!!!!

You have to book the ticket in her maiden name. If you have already booked then you'll have to get the passport changed before you go.

You can get the passport amended. They'll just print a little sentence on one of the back pages stating that this passport has been amended and state her married name.
