Did anyone else think the home run derby is a waste of time?

I think it's a complete joke now. It was once considered a privilege to be nominated to participate in the Derby, but now, it's a laughable matter. Honestly, are Wright and Howard really the two best batters in Major League Baseball? Are they even the two best batters in the National League? I think not. Too many players are declining their invitations these days, which turns the Derby into the same thing the World Baseball Classic is: a joke.

I will have to say this about the Derby though, they did get rid of that stupid International format and returned it to American League vs. National League.

Ryan Howard belongs in the Extra Base Hit Derby, not the Home Run Derby. Sure, he's a pretty good home run hitter, but he's not the best in the National League by far.

If people like Albert Pujols, Andruw Jones, and Manny Ramirez would stop declining their invitations, the Derby would be restored to what it used to be.

As it stands now, it's a joke that sophomores can take it all.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that all star games in general and all the other extra activities are a waste of time. Snooze fest to say the least.

I don't think it was a waste because it's for charity and it was cute to see the players with their kids! That's so special!

Also, it was so nice to see the players relaxing and just having a good time. Robinson Cano couldn't stop smiling! That was precious.

And anytime A-Rod is on tv is good for me! Those eyes . . . ( sigh ) . . . um, what was the question? ; )

Even though to you it seems to be a big waste of time there are plenty of people who watch it from start to finish every year who's opinion as to the importance of the event probably has at least as much weight as yours.
