There is a certain degree of hypocrisy in politics, yes, but the real game involved in politics is getting elected to office. The people who get elected have a message that people want to hear. Never mind the fact that politicians make all kinds of grand promises to get elected and then fail to deliver on them once they're in office; the trick in politics is to "play to the crowd."

P.S. wmp65 is obviously an idiot and clueless about history -- Liberals have a long history of taking credit for the progress made by conservatives while at the same time bashing conservatives for being narrow-minded zealots (case in point: Bill Clinton -- HE is the real reason the U.S. economy crashed once we reached the new millenium. Any economist will tell you that the economy operates on a 10-15 year life cycle, so the boom we saw in the '90s is the direct result of the hard work of one Ronald Wilson Reagan, and the disasters we're dealing with now are the direct result of the total incompetence of one William Jefferson Clinton and one Hillary Rodham Clinton).

Well, there is a perception out there that in reality the parties in the US are about 3 degrees of difference. Bush is like 4 or 5 degrees out which is why we have issues with him.

The game is to deny your opponent any opportunity to enact a good idea that they can claim credit for.
