what were you doing the day the war began?

mark it for posterity, because your children will ask you. and on what day did this war begin? was it actually on 9-11? or was it when the israeli soldier was snatched? today was the day i recognized the possibility, so i'm just going with that.

when history casts its gaze back over these events between israel and her neighbors... how will the war be cast? which party is instigator, which is the victim and which are we?

i can't help but find this somewhat familiar... if ironic:

Update:

hey snowbunny, what implications do you think this has for the war on terrorism, if you think it is all one war now?

Update 2:

if any of you answering look back at your answers and my question... it seems many of you were in school and remember 9-11 very vividly... one person even said she hated "the enemy". who is our enemy? all of you say you have continued to go to school like you did that day... have you given up any regular activities? or do you just know we are at war because you hear about it on the news?

the war began on 9-11. I was in the Army looking out the window of the barracks when we got called on high alert. From that point on we carried our weapons and were on 12 hour watch cycles.

Well, I remember 9/11 because I was home that day (one of my kids was sick, I believe) and I saw it come on the news at lunch time. I don't know which news was syndicated to the BBC - probably CNN. Anyway, I heard it and then came and watched while the second plane went in. I don't think there was any doubt about that - I saw it happen, as you did. I was just sickened by the unbelievable.

Much later I was sickened again when America pressurised the United Nations into allowing them to go into Iraq - and dragged the UK in with them. I never believed for one moment that Iraq had any WMD and the only reason I could see for the war (and I still believe that) was oil. It seemed to me quite obvious that there were no weapons to be seen (none have ever been found) and terrorism was not an option either because the Taliban was in Afghanistan not in Iraq.

There was also the problem of Israel. I think that the US and the UK have supported this country and its policies unfairly. Israel has often been the agressor and, if not a puppet of the West, at least a 'favorite child'. It seems to me that the whole lot stinks mightly of fish. History, of course, is not impartial. It will be written (and fought over) by many nations and the truth will be as hard to find as the real truth of 9/11 is.

I was not even born when the war against Israel was started. It was started way back around the turn of the century with the hope of a Jewish nation. After WWII it finally happened when the Europeans wanted the Jews to go back to their own country. The were given the desert that was rightfully theirs from millienia ago.

If you are talking about the war on terrorism, than that started 9/11/01 when we finally had a President that got tired of being attacked both foreign and domestic. The first true shot was back in 1993 with the first World Trade Center bombing. I was at school when the Twin Towers were attacked and was pissed that they canceled school. I was not surprised that this had happen because of the bull**** that Gore did after the 2000 election.

Yeah, I think the war began on 9/11. =(

I was in my 4th grade class like every other day. The intercom told us. At the time, I had no idea what was going on. I mean, I was in 4th grade! We got out of school really early, even though I didn't understand.

What I remember most was the news. Showing footage over and over again for months, maybe even a year. What crushed me most was how people had to jump out of the building. How they called from the debree with little pockets of air.

I hate war, but I hate the enemy most. They had no right, no matter what anyone says!

I was in second grade. I had school off that day for some reason, dont remember why. I was channel surfing and I settled on the news, and all of a sudden they showed the towers. Before that I was outside running away from bees with my next door neighbors and ripping up a cardboard box. After that I was eating Cheez-its and then playing with my neighbors again.

I was walking into my office. One of my co workers came running to me and told me that someone had bombed one of the world trade center tower. We spent much of the morning in the conference room where we saw the bombing of the second tower; the pentagon and then heard about the aircraft that crashed in the field. We were tearful and praying and utterly devastated when the towers collapsed. Honestly I cannot remember the sequence of events because so much was going on that morning. I spent the remainder of the day trying to reach friends who lived and worked in New York. I remember shaking and not being able to eat or sit still until I talked to them. Then I could not sit, eat or sit still because of the deaths of all the people in the tower, pentagon, on the planes and those first responders who died. This was a truly traumatic and horrible day.

I was cleaning my house. It was the first day of my self imposed "no t.v." period, so I heard about the WTC on the radio, and of course had to plug the t.v. back in and watched it all day. Pretty freaky.
