I have well water and when I wash my clothes, especially the white clothes, they come out with a brown color?

Is there something I can add to get rid of the brown color? Right now I take them somewhere and wash them but it is a pain. We have a water softener but it isn't working right now.

There is a product on the market called Iron Out. You just add it to your wash tp prevent the brown color it is safe for all colors. Good Luck.

Source(s): Have used it myslef in the past.

It sounds like you have an abundance of iron in your water. You need a working water softener to fix this problem.

Sounds more like you need a water filtration system. Is it a brown or a rusty color. IF it is a rusty it is iron in the water and a system would reduce or remove it.

There is a special rust-remover in the detergent aisle- I can't remember what it's called. But my fave (we have hard water, too) is Gain with Bleach. My clothes never looked so bright, and you can use it on all of them (even colors)

It sounds like you have a lot of iron in your water. You can try bleaching your white clothes.
