Garth Snow as a GM of the Islanders??

Neil Smith was fired today after less than a month on the job. His replacement? The Islanders back-up goalie (I wish I was joking). Let's here what you think of this one.

Well lets hope he is better at managing than he was at stopping pucks. Did you hear about his first major move as GM? He had a big ol' fire to help keep the homeless of Long Island warm. He used all the orange jerseys as fuel.

Neil Smith getting fired was no suprise. He had to report to Ted Nolan and Mr. Wang. It was something he didn't like. He wanted more control in operations of the team. Something he wasn't going to get. Neil Smith was living off of the Rangers success in '94. That was a team that Mike Keenan constructed for the most part. Neil Smith was just a name in the GM role.

Giving the GM position to Garth Snow I think is not a bad choice. Your getting a ex-player that was a back up so he had plenty of time to be on the bench and evaluate players. He is also used to the players that are currently in the league. Garth Snow had let it be known that he wanted to be a GM someday.

His only downfall is his experience as a GM. He also has to get used to a salary cap and contracts. His staff should help him if he has the right people. Look for the Islanders to make some moves in a postive direction. Maybe not this year but in the near future.

I'm a Washington Capitals season ticket holder and I can see what they are doing on Long Island. I wish the Islanders good luck.

I do not believe that Garth Snow will in fact be the man to make the decisions. He's just the puppet in front and I kinda have an idea who's the one pulling the strings. MM

Garth Snow might be the only GM whose salary counts against the cap, as a goalie called Snow still has a contract.

Regardless, what you think of Neil Smith what he did for the Rangers was amazing and that core group was great. If you look around the league, some of the young talent he had at that time has really blossomed.

It would have been nice to see what he could have brought to the Islanders. Garth Snow is a bold choice but not sure it was a wise one.

No experience whatsoever as GM in Garth Snow. That's his biggest drawback. Obviously Snow has been around forever, so he'll do a good job with assessment, but he's not a proven leader.

Neil Smith is an egotist, but I would imagine this just came down to control over the team he should have had, as the Isles ownership is known for sticking its nose in where it doesn't belong.

i changed into satisfied they fired Smith and that i'm a existence lengthy Isles fan..Smith has hyperlinks to the Rangers, and may smash the crew a lifeless ringer for mononey did interior the 90s..and as far because the circus in lengthy island..if i look i imagine that the Islanders nonetheless have extra cups then both teh dDevils or the Rangers..and one good year by using the Rangers doesnt erase that they have finished in the back of the Isles the three years before that. I surely might want to say the completed league has been rather lame as far as signings..the Islanders nonetheless have some skills in Bridgeport..they have been acceptable the only accurate few seasons...they ought to nonetheless seem to sgn one extra defenseman..and attempt to commerce yashin. the Islanders will somewhat make the playoffs this year yet they'll make it b/c i think that Dipietro is able to coach some beter chioces

The islanders are now the biggest laughingstock in all of sports overtaking the knicks.

    Go Rangers!

I think it is a big mistake. To take someone straight from playing and put him in the TOP position without any management experience of any kind is not a smart move.

This is GREAT. Maybe now my Penguins will be at least NEXT to last place. Of course I cheer for stupid decisions by other teams in my division though.
