Can you report an apartment complex for not fulfilling their management/maintenance duties?

And if so, to who? The management at my complex sucks really bad. No one is ever in the office to answer questions, take rent checks, maintenance is nonexistent, it's ridiculous. I'm supposed to notify them that I'm moving out and not renewing my lease in thirty days and I don't know how I'm supposed to do that when I can't get a hold of anyone. So yeah, what can I do?

If you live in the City Limits where you live report them to the City Codes Enforcement, If outside city limits report them to County Codes Enforcement. They could with hold the rent you owe them until they fix the problems.

I would suggest on finding out if it is owner operator or is managed by a management co. Look at your lease agreement and see who the management/owner is and try to call the main office. See if they have a sister property.

If your planning on moving and not renewing your lease, I suggest a certified letter with a return signature. To CYA, make sure you take pictures of each room, so they can't come back at you and falsely charge you for any damages.

If your lease is up they can't charge you for rent provided you are moved out by the date your lease expires. I suggest you also send your keys certified mail as they can charge you for failure to return the keys.

Just remember CYA is the most important thing :)

If they have a mail slot drop a copy of your intent to leave with the posted date and save a copy. you have fulfilled your obligation.

In the rental agreement there are listed specific maintenance work they have to complete.

Your local housing commission or Chamber of Commerce will direct you on how to make a formal complaint.

If you trust a lawyer ask one for advice. i wish you well.

Send them a certified letter advising them of the date you plan to move. That is all you have to do. You might want to check your state's laws on tenant/landlord rights. You should be able to find this on the internet.

Well if it was me I would send them a letter first and get a copy of it then send it to your landlord and then I would

call a Lawyer and ask them what you can do, But do it over the phone. they might help you or tell you who to contact. I hope this will help
