At what age did you switch your child to a sippy cup?

I'm hoping to go straight from breast feeding to introducing a sippy cup. She hates the bottle, so atleast I won't have to wean her from that.

What age is a good time to start the transition?

I gave my daughter a cup during meal times (solids) at 6 months and by 7 months she was only taking the bottle for nap times and bed time and by 9 months she was only taking it for bed time. I got her to taking the bottle every other night by 11 months and on her first birthday she seem to just give it up on her own, but I didn't pack the bottles up until she was 13 months. I kept them out incase of a "bad" night and it was just taking up space! :-)

My daughter LOVES the Gerber ones, you do have to be a LITTLE careful though. I have found when my daughter throws the cup the valve comes loose, you just have to pop it back in. I have never had it come out unless she throws it from her high chair, crib, or now when she is mad. I have found it is the ONLY TRUELY LEAK PROOF CUP (except when thrown, then it pours out). The soft spout is easy and since you daughter doesn't like bottles, don't waste your money on Nubby (it is the same stuff as a bottle). Make sure the first ones have handles so she can learn to pick it up herself. Hope this helps! :-)

I wouldn't recommend Tummy Ticklers, I work for Wal-Mart, and I have found they are also really made for an older toddler (like TWO/THREE). They are no more then high priced sports bottles with characters on it!

I have 4 kids. Two grown 23 & 24 and a 14 yr old and a 2 1/2 year old. The best nonleak sippy cup I've ever used is called TUMMY TICKLERS.

    Go to www.tummytickler.com

You can buy them at WalMart, Kroger, Albertsons etc.

Its juice in a reusable bottle with a sippy type top. My son drinks chocolate milk and he always drinks one overnight. In the morning no matter what kind of nipple we used or how expensive of a sippy cup we bought it would leak drops of chocolate milk on the mattress. I stumbled upon the tummytickler drinks at Walmart and have absolutely loved them ever sense! He doesn't like the juice, so I just buy them for the bottle. They're that good!

I did the transition for my two daughters at 11 months. Some say that even 10 months is a good time to introduce the sippy cup, or when your baby began growing teeth.

I started to introduce the sippy cup to my son at about 9 months but he really did not care for it. It took a couple of months but what I found to help was a soft spout on the sippy cup. I think it felt good against his gums. He was definitely using the sippy at age one. I did not send him to bed with it esp. with milk because when the baby lays down to sleep the milk can get trapped in the ear and lead to ear infections. Also the nipple from bottles can lead to tooth decay. If you are still not sure you can always ask a pediatrician or La Leche League but basically it is your decision and your child's readiness.

Well, Pediatricians recommend that by a year old they should be drinking out of a sippie cup and by 2 years old be drinking out of a regular cup.

I would recommend introducing it around 8 or 9 months because it will take some getting use to. By a year old she should be only using the sippie.

They have the new spill proof sippies that have the straw coming out of them. I know my son really likes that one because he doesn't have to tip it up to drink.

    Good luck.

I started to give my son juice (very diluted) in a sippy cup when he was 7 months old. He still takes his formula in a bottle, but gets the sippy cup for everything else. We are weaning him to milk now, and when he's on whole milk (no formula) he'll be on the sippy cup only.

I introduced the sippy at 5 months to get him used to it and to be acostomed to it before time to take the bottle. The sooner the better..Try giving her breast milk in the cup...He is now 9 months and can do it by himself. Begin with cups with handles the playtex ones are great don't get the gerrber ones the valve comes loose and floats in the drink and baby gets choked,
