  • Present for a 2 year old that loves to dance?

I have a daughter that loves to dance and will copy others dancing as well. I would love to get her a present that will encourage her dancing. I just don't have a clue what to buy.

I've seen the commercials for the Disney Dancing Princesses DVD, but it looks a little advanced for a 2 year old. There is also a Strawberry Shortcake DVD out.

I like the idea of a DVD as she is a visual learner. I would like to find something in the $10-15 range. What would you recommend?

  • Advice for cruise travel with young children?

We've already booked a cruise on Norwiegan Cruise Lines to the Mexican Riviera. We're taking our 21 month old and almost 5 year old kids with us. We'll have extended family with us to help out as well.

I'm trying to think of everything we'll need and I'm sure there will be things that I can't come up with on my own. Any suggestions?

I've already bought the cloth swim diapers (they don't allow the disposable kind). I have water shoes for both kids. We have a brand new bottle of sunblock. We'll obviously take children's medicines with us just in case. We're driving their so we'll have some things to keep them entertained in the car.

It's difficult planning for such a multi-faceted vacation -car trip, hotel stay, cruise, and shore excursions. We've been on a cruise before, but never with kids.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

  • What do you collect?

What types of things do you collect and why?

I collect sea shells because of an elderly neighbor that had a huge collection when I was 5 years old. I thought they were so pretty.

  • What types of toy animals do you collect?

I know that rubber ducks are popular. My sister-in-law collects squirrels. My adopted Grandma collects elephants. What are other commonly collected animals?

  • A balcony garden in Phoenix, AZ?

I'm curious about when to plant and what I can plant on my second floor balcony. The balcony faces west, so we get the afternoon sun in Phoenix. I have young kids so I want to avoid cactus or anything that could be poisonous.

I'm looking for a name for my parakeet. He's male, mostly blue with a white head. I'm hoping for a Spanish name since he loves Latin music.

  • Time frame for an allergic reaction to a bee sting?

How long would it take for the symptoms of an allergic reaction to appear after the initial sting?

  • A bee sting on an infant (almost 1yr old)?

Just wondering if a bee sting can be more dangerous for a baby or if it's the same as for an older child (ie. watch for signs of allergic reaction).

  • What to buy for a girl's 1st birthday?

Since she has an older brother she already has a lot of typical toys and books for that age. I'm looking for something in the $10-15 price range.

  • Healthy home made snacks?

I'm NOT looking for ideas like grapes, celery with peanut butter, rice cakes, etc. I love to bake, but I would like to find some healthier alternatives to cookies and brownies. And please don't refer me to a website. I want recipes that you have tried and/or tasted yourself.

  • What do you do with nighttime fears?

My 3 yr old son has problems sleeping because of sounds at night. Most nights he's just fine, but other nights he calls us in for every little sound -cars, neighbors, water running, etc. His biggest fear is the sound of a storm (the wind, rain, thunder). He's not alone in his room he shares with his baby sister. We try to talk to him about most sounds and help him say a prayer to help keep him safe. He sleeps with a night light and has a flashlight by his bed. It works alright, but not for the weather fears. He loves storms during daylight hours, but insists that they scare him at night. We finally just let him sleep on the floor by our bed during storms.

Any suggestions? Is this something that kids just grow out of?

  • At what age did you take away your child's sippy cup?

My three year old still gets a water bottle at night. We just threw out all the sippy cups, but he likes to have one for bed. It only has water in it and it's not really a sippy cup. It's Nalgene brand (common among hikers and campers).

Just wondering what everyone else has done.

  • At what age did you switch your child to a sippy cup?

I'm hoping to go straight from breast feeding to introducing a sippy cup. She hates the bottle, so atleast I won't have to wean her from that.

What age is a good time to start the transition?

  • Hints for traveling by airplane with a 5 month old?

Any tips on making the flight easier on my daughter (5 months) as well as everyone else? And don't suggest a sedative, benedryl, paragoric, etc. She'll be sitting on my lap during the flight. We have one layover. Traveling with us will by my 3 1/2 year old and my mother-in-law (I'm thrilled that she's willing to help). Normally, I'd avoid traveling until she's older, but we're moving and I'd rather fly than drive the 16 1/2 hours with 2 young kids.

  • Why do people living in apartments have large dogs?

In my apartment complex there are a lot of really big dogs. Dalmations, black labs, etc. I don't understand why anyone would keep such a big dog in an apartment. One dog couldn't handle it and broke through the window to get out (twice). I love dogs, but it seems cruel to keep them in such a small home.
