At what age did you take away your child's sippy cup?
My three year old still gets a water bottle at night. We just threw out all the sippy cups, but he likes to have one for bed. It only has water in it and it's not really a sippy cup. It's Nalgene brand (common among hikers and campers).
Just wondering what everyone else has done.

My 2 year old is stuck on the sippy....She has it everywhere she goes and whines about it if she doesnt have it......Ive tried to hide it...but it gets worse lol......I think the main reason why she is still on one is because she isnt careful with regular cups and spills all over....hopefully soon she will get the handle of it, but then again she is only 2.....good luck

My 3 1/2 year old twins still have sippys, i see absolutely nothing wrong with them. They are fully capable of drinking from a glass but i see no harm in the cups. they are useful when we go out and they want a drink in the car or at the park and at bed time. and for the most part thats really all they use, but when they ask for a regular cup i give it to them and they know that when they have a big cup they are to stay in the kitchen with it. I havent even considered taking away the sippy cup, its no different than an adult drinking from a sports bottle, which coincidentally is what i am usually drinking from. As long as they have the capability of drinking from a regular glass when need be then i see absolutely no problem with a sippy cup.

What you're doing is fine. Your child most likely wants to sip the water at night for comfort. It's either that, or a Teddy Bear. If, at the age of four, he still wants a sippy cup, you need to wean him off of it. We would sit our daughter at the kitchen table with a glass of milk (or whatever she wanted to drink that wasn't full of sugar) and sat with her while she drank it from a cup. And then it was off to bed for a story, and then sleepy time. Still, you seem to be on the right track, and I wouldn't worry. All kids have different paces for different things. Just like some babies walk before others, some need a sippy cup and others don't. Good luck.

My son gave up his bottle at just over a year but had a sippy cup for a long time. I have seen kids much older with sippy cups just because by are less messy. I wouldn't take a sippy cup away. They will let you know when they are too old for it.

I took both away during the day and get them to drink from a children cup you know a small cup then talk to them about them being a "big Boy" or girl. Then they will get used to the idea of a cup.
Children are in habit and it is sometime for comfort. Get then used to something else and it will slip away!!
I had to just put my foot down with my son at the age of 3 and take it away because he wanted it like a bottle at night and I knew if it stayed that way I might as well give him the bottle back and his fits only lasted for 1 day and he's fine now!! Good luck!!

Sippy Cup = good! Much better then a baby bottle, I saw a FIVE YEAR OLD on "Honey, We're Killing the Kids" with a baby bottle and it just kinda made me sick! The way I look at it is, eventually they will ask for a regular cup and in the meantime enjoy the fact that "most" sippy cups are "spill proof". :-)

My son is 4 and my twins are 6 and I still give them sippy cups for when they are watching a movie in the family room, in the car on trips it eliminates all the spills and they don't mind so neither do I . I have had some wicked spills so i make it easier for me.

My son has asthma and gets very thirsty at night. He's 4 1/2 years old and still gets a water bottle, and I don't see anything wrong with it. It doesn't cause any physical problems, and we all sleep better because of it (which promotes his health) so I will allow it as long as he needs to continue.

I have twins, now 3 1/2, we had to take the sippy cups away around 3......the twins were hiding them, and it was just getting too messy.......it's just small glasses at the moment, and is working better than sippys.................. :-)
