What is wrong with the spelling on this site!?!?

Can somebody please tell me what is wrong with the school system when people are mispelling words left and right? It is TOTALLY frightening to me. I don't have kids yet, but I hope that they will be taught how to read and write properly. YIKES!

Update:

Thank you for noticing my little spelling error - :) Cute, huh? Don't get mad, people, it is just that I have seen some serious errors today and it got me thinking.

My wife is a school teacher! The passing grade for the

kids at final exam time time in the inner city is 23! At her

school, the final math score for all 7th and 8th grade

students was 2! They are unable to speak, write and add,

but they sure know how to push those drugs. No one

needs an education in the city. There have been 4 or 5

generations on welfare, so why go to school and learn,

when some of the kids make more money than the

teachers! If someone does not like to hear this- tough!

You know- I've ALWAYS been a crummy speller...- & I had a pretty decent education too (throughtout which ALL of my teachers complained about my spelling- right through college!). So I don't think it's entirely the fault of our educational system that some idiots like me never get their spelling entirely right. I think most people either just don't care, or are too lazy to get out a dictionary to spell a word correctly. Maybe it's just a character flaw...- and a part of ones personality. Realising this, I actually AVOID using Spell Check- because I don't want to misrepresent my intellectual capabilities by appearing to spell better than I actually do!!! Still -poor spelling is nothing to be proud of, and I too am dismayed at the amount of bad spelling I find everywhere. I agree- Your complaint is justified.

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you. It is terrible!!! There was a question asking if they should home school their child and every other word was MISSPELLED!! I mentioned it to the person, but she wasn't happy with hearing my advice, but shouldn't we be teaching our children the RIGHT way to get ahead in this world? I cannot possibly imagine anyone getting hired anywhere with grammatical and spelling mistakes like that?! Don't worry...there are still some of us out there that do well in the English language and can help your child...all hope is not lost!

BY THE WAY...in your defense, the people that commented on your grammar being incorrect because you misspelled "misspell" should really learn something before they preach to you. Grammar does not encompass spelling. That is a whole different ball game and before they put you down about it, they should educate themselves~ !

I agree with you. Also, education does not STOP at the school system. Education must be reinforced at home as well. I would think that it is probably very frightening to see how many of these same people speak. The English language should be written and spoken properly. The way one writes and the way one speaks... well it speaks volumes to others about their character - or lack of.

There are a lot of kids on this site and its a game to most. They don't feel as though they need to be grammatically correct. I even think that some believe that its not cool to type correctly. I also believe that the majority of teachers try very hard. The first stages of learning are in the home with mom and dad; teaching their children the values of education and avoiding negative peer-pressure.

Your kids will be taught whatever you teach them. Maybe perhaps that is the problem. Everyone relays on the schools to teach there children everything.

I spell horribly, but I can tell you that the little spell check button is a great help.

Yea I'm amused at the grammatical errors that people make on this site too. People confuse their with there (don't even ask me how) and that's just the beginning of it. Human civilization is on a steady decline, and we can positively hope to revert back to the stone age within a few hundred years with people like that running the world. Maybe not even a few hundred....

The excuse is always that this isn't a report or a paper so spelling can just go out the window, and yo chill wit dat.... or some kind of nonsense. There IS a spell check button, poeple!

Kids don't read anymore. Reading develops vocabulary and improves spelling. Nintendo,Gameboy and all the others do not, and lets not mention TV. Put the blame on the parents for not raising their children in an atmosphere that promotes learning.

ok, first of all, there is not something incorrect with being insulted. Being insulted is an opinion element & all of us have the right to an opinion. Reporting all of that seems slightly skinny skinned. For the bonus question: learning to locate more effective to rfile sounds obsessive. If this section is too complicated for particular people's sensibilities, they ought to not come the following contained in the first position.
