    because its fun. the song started with harry caray and with the cubs. it gives u a chance to sing as loudly and as badly as u can

    Its a tradition started by the late and very great Cubbie broadcaster, Harry Caray. The origins of the song however are from the Tin Pan Alley era of American music. More information can be found here:
