How does the AMD AM2 support the Athlon 64, when it only supports DDR.?

What happens when you put a Athlon 64 into a AM2 board. Does it work with DDR2 or does it fall back to DDR speed.

I think you are confused. Athlon 64 has basically 3 platforms now to support the different boards.

    1) Socket 754

    2) Socket 939

    3) AM2

So if you are moving to AM2 platform, then you have to buy the AM2 Athlon64 CPU... So choose the correct one.

And as for DDR2 support, it is only in AM2 platform.

So the AM2 Athlon64s will be able to support DDR2 rams as it is a new platform but CPUs for S939 and 754 cannot have DDR2

    john says it all.

dont use ddr2 unless it states ddr2 (AM2 motherboard).

dont attatch an athlon 64 939 to an AM2 motherboard.
