How to eliminate a nuisance groundhog.?

A friend of mine is obsessed with getting rid of a groundhog that has taken to disrupting his lawn and eating his tomato plants and sunflowers. Shooting it is not an option because he lives in the city. Got any solutions (not dumb ones like dynamite or hand grenades)?

    Call Carl Spackler.

Seriously, you can buy stakes then send out a low frequency through the ground that are supposed to scare away burrowing animals. Any garden store or home improvement place should sell them. As far as scaring them away when they are on the surface, I tie a couple of small aluminum pie plates to a stake to keep rabbits out of my garden. When the wind blows, the plates rattle and the noise scares them away.

We had moles once and my Dad got rid of them and I helped, by dropping a lit smoke bomb in the holes, Its sulfur and it gets them away in a hurry, and the smell stays there for a long time ( to them.) Try it!
