no sorry man. red sox or yankees get the division...so the only way in for the jays is via the wild card, which sadly for you is going to be taken by the white sox or twins (not the tigers---I think they will tank before its all said and done) The jays made good moves in the off season, but they still are relying to much on young players who frankly aren't very good. teams that have young players like the verlanders and the lirianos and the barfields can contend...but when you have janssen, chacin, taubenheim, and now accardo as major players in your playoff run thats not good, not to mention powerless bats in aaron hill, russ adams, frank catalanotto, and reed johnson---i know they (besides russ adams) are hititng for average but their other stats are empty. alex rios is a fluke and is only a good hitter not a great one like he would make you believe. gettign rid of hillenbrand was a good idea, and your main core players are dangerous with wells, glaus, not overbay he sucks even though he has played well, not molina he also sucks, burnett, ryan, and halladay all are good core players which help make a team better. the molina signing granted he sucks was a good one since catching is so thin and the jays have had the likes of zaun, fletcher and cash to name a few manning that position over the last few years so it was a void that was filled nicely. JP needs to go out and get an adam everett to anchor the defense at short and in the offseason go after a brian roberts to play second to sure up the D and get some O in the process. Also the jays need to add a set-up guy like a mota, and another starter maybe a vazquez or a harang.

I'm a Jays fan like you, but I don't think they're headed to the playoffs this season.

What happened over the past few days is too typical of how they've gone this season. First, they look like a definite playoff team in taking 3 of 4 from the Yankees. They then head out west where, instead of building on that momentum, they drop 2 of 3 to Seattle. They've been consistently inconsistent like that all season, and I believe it will keep them from the playoffs. Burnett in those last two series has kind of been a microcosm of the whole team - awesome against the Yanks, terrible last night against Seattle.

The other problem for the Jays right now is that their pitching, in my opinion, won't get them enough victories. For the Jays, both Janssen and Marcum have ERAs over 5.00, which isn't going to lead to many wins from those spots. I think the Chisox with Vazquez and Garcia have a much better chance to pick up wins on the back end of their rotation.

Right now, I'd still put the Yankees, Twins and Chisox ahead of the Jays when it comes to playoff chances. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I will be.

Not a chance in hell. They are in too tough a division and it looks like they cannot get the wild card realistically as it'll probably be the White Sox or Twins. The Yankees have had terrible pitching yet the Jays have not taken advanatge of that and still lie 4.5 to 5.5. back. The Red Sox look solid too so I would say nope.

I'd put the odds at around 15% (I made that number up)... There are just too many good teams in the AL this year. As of today, they'd have to get past the Yankees, White Sox and Twins to make it, and that's fairly unlikely...

Boston will win the East, and the wild card comes from The Central.

However, I'd love to see The Blue Jays finish 2nd---one game ahead of the ny skankmes.

It is very much possible. They just have to beat the New York Yankess and the Chicago White Sox for the wild card. Those are the teams to beat.

I don't think so only because of the division they are in

the division is jsut too tough, they have the yanks and the Sox in there and usually the yanks and sox both got the playoffs

  • 1 decade ago

Doubtful, they'd have to get past the Yankees, Twins and the White Sox.

  • 1 decade ago

only if they can beat the red sox, because, as of now, it looks like the twins are either taking the wild card or the central, but, if they win the division, detroit will take wild card

No chance with the Twins playing the way they are.
