Ford Taurus again?

I bought a Ford Taurus waggon new in the mid 90's. It was pure crap. Two transmissions in 3 years. New brakes after 24,000 miles. Cooling system problems, electrical problems, fuel pump, oil pump etc etc. I am not anti-Ford and have bought several Ford products new and used and liked them. But the Taurus was a disaster. I might buy another Ford some day but never, never, a Taurus.

The Ford Tauras was the best in the 92-95 range. Ford lost touch after 96 and the quality has been downhill ever since. It was a better car 95 and before.

If your looking for a used car I'd have to say look at an import because Fords quality is just really not that great anymore. I drove a 2006 Ford Taurus for a week, it was missing most features a 98 camry had and the gas mileage was worse than a 98 camry. I'd think 8 years of automotive technology would have made at least the same gas mileage in both cars but nope, Ford is still behind the curve I'm sorry to say.

Get an import or a newer chrysler or chevy you'll be glad you did.

What a hassle!!

Honey I had one of those and the 1st. problem was that it came with a short circuit in the alarm system and that use to turn off the car even when I was driving it. one time I remember it happened in a hard rain night, the engine just went off and as you know all the systems got frozen including the steering wheel. when I finally found some body who helped me to turn the car I realized the car had stopped not to far from a cliff. Couple of meters more and I wouldn't be writing to you right now. After the last the transmission started to give problems. I hope you think it twice before wasting your money that way.

Beware of the 95 model. Some where made with bad engine parts. Had to get the entire engine replaced twice. (Don't know what happened the second time...) Luckily, it was a recall and Ford paid for it.

I say beware not because it's bad car, but because I want you to avoid that type of trouble. Good luck!

I'd bump up from a 95 to at least a 96. I have a few friends with 95's and they all seem to have similar break/transmission problems.

Yes, your looking for trouble with these cars. Seems Ford doesn't have the quality in them like they would in there trucks. Go figure huh? I had seen many taurus' with soo much trouble. I'm scared of them personally. Sorry.

If your original tranny went out in '97, then I'd say it's a pretty reliable car. 12 years is a long time.

i have relatives that have taurus' in that generation and they seem alright. just do ALOT of research. if your looking for reliability, go toyota or honda. just remember, every type of car has its cars that will run for 300k miles and some that will only run for 30k miles. good luck

Fords suck. Try a hyundai or a honda.

They are for sure, better than they were before.
