Has anyone smoke on in an airplane bathroom since the smoking ban?
If so ... did you get caught? If not ... how did you disable the smoke detecter? How did you get the smoke to exhaust from the restroom?
I'm a heavy smoker and go crazy on overseas flights. I'm will to risk getting the $5000 fine, but I'd rather not. Any suggestions on how to get away with smoking on board would really be appriciated!!!
Wow, no way to edit my question. SB "Has anyone smoked in an airplane bathroom since the smoking ban?"
The smoke detecter is most easily disabled by wrapping it in plastic wrap and securing it with a rubberband. No smoke in ... no alarm out!
I'm puzzled with the air exhaust in the bathroom. I'll I can find so far is a strong suction when you flush and also when you drain the sink. Both are just momentary and not even close to long enough for even a few puffs.

Not a good idea to smoke on a plane. You're liable to get arrested!
Learn how to survive with nicotine gum / patches, or try and kick the habit before you go.
Smokers fly all the time. They find some way to survive....

well yeah I smoke always when I'm flying first step go to toilet in the right timing while the cabin crew are doing the service so everybody is busy passengers are seated waiting there meal or drink service if u want to be served ask the who ever sitting next to you to tell the crew yr choice of meal or drink. other timing when the service is done and everybody sleeping on night flights ***should be long haul flight so u don't get noticed the crew will be resting too some of the crew will be hanging in the galley having coffee or gossiping.
go to toilet get some tissue one or 2 and put some water on it so its will stick on the smoke detector nozzle
in the sink there is movable water blocker so u can remove it by pulling it out.
in the aircraft water dumping system working with vacuum so the sink will by vacuuming the smoke u blow keep yr cigarette near by that hole and when u smoke keep yr exhale near too so no smoke would be smelled by no one of course u need yr perfume with you not much a little u can spray and some gum and you are done

i really hate the smoking ban. in my opinion, it should be up to the owner of the establishment. no one has a right to go into a bar or resturaunt, they have an option. if there is something u don't like about the place stay out. if i work my butt off to run my business, then i should be able to run it the way i want. and yes, i smoshilize all the time.

this guy tried it, it was in an overseas flight and funny thing, he tried unplugging the smoke detector and it still set off, so yeah i think you'll get caught anyways... the flight attendant went to get him out of there, took his name, announced it to everyone on the plane, which must've been pretty embarrassing, and then the guy was given a fine, and had to go through this crap at the airport... at the gate these security ppl were waiting for him so this probably isnt such a good idea... try a patch or risk if youve got 5000bucks to loose go ahead i guess and of course if you dont mind the whole plane looking at you

I never tried and I don't think I want a heavy fine to pay for such stupidity. I smoke so before my flight, I go outside and enjoy my last one before the plane is boarding. Try the patch, it's not worth the penatly!

I smoke too, but I mainly just go on short flights. I totally hear where you're coming from. The anti-smoking movement has gotten out of hand -- Hitler was also against smoking.
But I think there's a way to get around the health nazis on overseas flights. Just fly a foreign carrier -- US Regulations do not apply to them on international flights.

You can't get away with smoking on airplanes. However some carriers do allow it on overseas flights , you will have to ask around. As far as the smokers rights nonsense goes ; it has always been tacitly understood that in the act of exercising your "rights " you are not allowed to behave in a way that harms others. Smoking in an airplane not only harms your fellow passengers but harms the airplane you are flying in.

I am a smoker also, but I wouldn't chance it. If you have $5,000.00 to spend on a fine for smoking I'm sure you probably have enough to charter a private plane that would let you smoke.

first, i am a smoker sick and tired of the ban on smoking in what seems to be...EVERYWHERE, even in an outdoors plaza!
second, as a smoker, we are paying ENORMOUS amounts of money in TAXES, just to buy our cancer sticks, but it is our choice to smoke.
third, if non smokers have the liberty of not smoking, why shouldn't i have the liberty to smoke?
fourth, why aren't alcoholic beverages taxed the way tobacco is? drinking alcohol while driving does cause horrific accidents wherein the drunk driver does not even get a scratch he is so anesthesized... however, my smoking in my car has never caused me to lose control.
YES, I DID IN FACT SMOKE IN AN AIRLINE WASHROOM AFTER THE BAN WAS PUT INTO EFFECT!!! heavens me, i got caught! the FAA sent me a letter telling me that i had to explain exactly why i was smoking in the plane. i did (it had to do with alleviating physical pain i had at that time, which psychologists know about but which doctors that are psychiatrists do not know about), and then i was slapped with a fine. no, it was not $5,000.
personally, i wish that it were not against the law that any airplane that flies in USA air space has to be non-smoking. it didn't cause accidents in the past. we should have a company that can allow its smokers to smoke while flying. it should be called something like "Smokers' Dellightflights."
i agree with my cohort above. this anti-smoking law thing is really getting out of hand.

Go ahead and try it. Just be willingto explain it to the authorities upon landing. Better get the patch or gum! Ohhh, and have your checkbook ready. Because if you smoke and get caught that's one fine. Get caught tampering with the smoke detector and get smoking, Enjoy the shinny silver braclets they are going to give you. Hope the habit is worth it!
