Shouldn’t there be more incentive to vote/rank?
Would you vote for best answers and/or rank best answers more often if there was a daily 100 point raffle entry given each time you did? I mean one point gets you there, but too often I see questions stalemate because only two or three people voted, each for a different answer (probably the people who wrote the answer to begin with fishing for points). Would this or some other reasonable incentive change your habits? Ideas?
There should be a separate raffle for each level.

Yes, I've been thinking about this. It's been driving me crazy that there are over 600,000 questions in voting, and the # seems to keep going up. I feel like I'm fighting a no win battle. I've been concentrating in Science category (and keeping track of the #'s), and I've been seeing some improvement (but it's slow). I'm really glad about the changes in timing because I think that's helping (or at least preventing it from getting worse), but I wish they would do some things to improve process & incent behavior.
Here are some of my thoughts
- Give 2 points for voting for tie breakers
- Have a separate section wi/ voting that is for tiebreakers
- Maybe have a week where they do a voting promotion. They could advertise it in the header & double everyone's quotas for the week. Maybe during this week votes also count double (i.e. 2 pts rather than 1)
- Make it easier/faster. For example, don't show me ones that I've previously voted for. If I sort by date & start w/ the earliest, then the "next one" should be the next most previous not the current ones.
- Increase the quotas for Level 6 & 7. These people usually care more about voting and are more likely to use their quota.
I've sent some of these suggestions to the Yahoo Answers team. You may want to do the same.

Points honestly become less important when you hit level 5. At that point you can do pretty much whatever you want. So, yeah, a 100 point raffle would help for beginners, but not for anybody else.
Making it a public banner, or masthead would probably help. Of course, Yahoo has really not said what is needed for that. Or for being a featured page on 360.
Make it points on the early levels, and recognition on the later ones would probably do the trick.

Good question. I think as this site evolves Yahoo hopefully will continue to tinker with it, and make it better. Not to say that it not fun already. I come here for some legit answers to my questions as well to see some of the answer given. I, also love to read some of insight of the FAAARRR RIGHT/LEFT. While I don't agree with some of the crap that comes outta some peoples gray matter, some of the stuff makes me go, "hhuuummm".

Yah i think it would. and i agree wit that voting thing i mean 3 ppl dont represent all ppl participating in yahoo!answers. maybe it would encourage ppl. Gd idea bout the raffle..never thought of it 2 be sincere
- How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

I think one point isn't enough. Often questions have multiple answers so it can be time consuming to wade through all of them and make a decision about which one you think is best. I think it's worth at least 2 points.

there should be more incentives because if it is a tie breaker, and your vote determines the winner, than there should be more points rewarded
