Is God the author of time or is it free will?

I asked a question earlier about the progression of technology (notice I skipped the word evolution) and I was surprised that among Christian answers there was a discrepancy between God being the author of time and bringing us these technologies and it being free will and the follies of man. So WHO is driving the bus here, God or Free will?

God created the world, but he also created with free will. My perspective is that time is not a very meaningful concept. If God is working on an inflexible time line, then is he even in charge. God can intervene when He deems it necessary. There is a paradox of determinism and freewill that is difficult to fully grasp.

  • Free will can't be the author of time in a human form - we can be the author of measurements of time but not time itself.

A supreme being couldn't author time because time is neccesary for being, even a supreme being. This is debatable because we can't even disprove such statements.

I postulate that time is the author of both free will and God. Time is actually the unmoved mover.

God has a purpose and plan, but is not interested in controlling things in a puppet fashion. Just like if you have a plan to diet. You continue on with your plan, but you don't make it your aim to write every cookie and chip company to tell them to stop making their product. They can do what they want, you'll do what you plan.

Same with God. He has a plan, and since he's the Almighty, his plan will come to completion, without interference. But he created us in his image, with free will, and intelligent like him. Just like he can create, we can create things based on his creation. Where do you think they got the idea for jet propulsion? Octopuses! Where do you think the idea for a computer came from? the human brain! We were created in his image, not like a dog, a monkey....so we can think, create, etc.

From this ability comes the technology, the good stuff...AND the viruses, the bad stuff.

We as man have free will to use our intelligence that is unique to our kind for either good or bad

I have trouble with the predestination thing.

Despite Ephesians 1:4 saying He has chosen us from the foundation of the world, we can walk away from that by our free will.

2Peter 3:9 says he's not slow to fulfill His promise but that He's waiting for those who will to come.

That would indicate a free will choice on our part.

"In the beginning God..." Genesis 1:1A . Of course God invented/created time. He created all things. He was in eternity before time came on the scene. Free will has no power to invent anything!

Man has the concept of time!

God gave man free will to have the concept of time!
