How do you change the pull cord on a ceiling fan?

I want to replace the short pull chains on my ceiling fans with longer chains. I've got the replacements, but I'm not sure how involved this project is. Is there more to it than just pulling out the on/off switch and swapping out chains?

Are you replacing the switch or just the chain? If you are replacing the switch you have to disassemble the fan to get to the current switch. I would turn off the breaker to keep from getting shocked...

I have seen some desiginer chains that just clip onto the current short chain. You don't have to do anything with the fan.....

Sounds like there may be a separate breaker for the fan only. Go locate the breaker and/or fuse box and see if any tripped. I'm sure that's the issue. Otherwise it could be faulty wiring or a burned out electric motor.

Go to Lowes or hardware store and buy a new three speed switch or what ever the old switch is. turn off power unscrew three or four phillips screws that hold light on and take light off you will see pull switch replace it with new switch
