What are the good and bad things about getting tubes tied?

Having your tubes tied is a very important decision. Reversal is expensive and not always successful.

Having you tubes tied is major surgery. You are put to sleep and when you wake up, it been done. That was the part I didn't like, being put to sleep.

Once you have the surgery, you will stay a few days in the hospital for observation. Your stomach will hurt, and you will feel the need to cough. You will have to hold a pillow over your stomach and push down to cough.

Once you go home, you will need to take it very easy for a few weeks, so you won't risk tearing the sutures open. Try to have someone home to help you and the baby (if you just had one).

Once you are healed up, you will have no more problems!

For the first year, you will need to use a back-up method of birth control. Even after that, you still have the rare chance of becoming pregnant. But very rare.

I have had no problems after tying my tubes. And, my husband & I enjoy ourselves more with the idea of not having more children.

Just be sure this is what you want, it's virtually permentant.

Obviously, the bad thing is having to undergo surgery under anesthesia. I recommend that your husband/partner have a vasectomy as this is much less invasive and only fair if you have already endured pregnancy/labor/delivery.

But it is a good thing. I had my tubes tied in 1992 and had no problem with the procedure. Plus, the risk of pregnancy is almost 0%! Although, I remember that right before I had mine tied, there was an article in the paper about a woman who had gotten pregnant with her tubes tied and her partner also had a vasectomy! So, nothing is 100%. Good luck!

That's pretty much it. You're still going to have a period every month, that doesn't change to much after you have your tubes tied. Just make sure it's the right time for you, and that you may not change your mind later. While some of the procedures can be reversed it's very costly to do so. Most insurances will pay to have it done, but not the other way around.

Here are all the good things I experienced getting mine tied: no more birth control, no more worrying about getting pregnant, had a quick recovery time, also found out i had a medical problem called endometriosis that should have been diagnosed long before it was-that was good because I got it treated and now dont have to worry anymore.

bad things: might regret it later (I still dont regret mine being done) there is a very very slim chance of pregnancy which could be an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.

There is a form of birth control, called Mirena, that is as effective as having your tubes tied, has the lowest risk of side effects. There is no human error factor like with other birth controls, or worrying about taking a pill all the time or whatever. It also lasts for 5 years, then you can get a new one. you can also get it removed whenever you want, if you decide you want another child. talk to your doctor about it. it would be a less drastic, yet equally effective choice for you

I had mine tied 4 years ago and am CURRENTLY 5 weeks pregnant and have had 2 miscarriages in the last year.

So, if you get them tied, make sure its done properly and MAKE SURE you dont want to have kids again.

I REGRET getting mine done, but maybe this pregnancy will be a full term :)

I had my tubes tied 18 moths ago and I have not had any problems with it. My cycle is normal every 28 days, and i don't have to worry about getting pregant any more.

Personally I love having my tubes tied. My periods are heavier and I usually have more cramping but I love the freedom of not remembering other bc.

It's not bad. But ask a professional first. I know a lot of women who got their tubes tied and it was all just fine so...Yeah..

The good is no more birthcontrol the bad is that it can make your cycle irregular and a tad more uncomfortable. I had mine tied after my son was born and I never regretted it.
