is it legal (TN) to pay someone to do your community service?

I saw an ad to "hire" someone for this...I wasn't aware that was legal. Or is it?

Update:

lol frankly I agree about the you do the crime you do the time. I've just never seen such a thing ADVERTISED before! Excuse is she's pregnant...sorry but have a co-worker 7 months pregnant and she shows up at a job, probably more strenuous than community service. I think it's wrong...but wasn't sure if it was *illegal*

Update 2:

and for the record it IS NOT ME. I'm in AL. lol but was browsing the internet and came across the ad. have a call in to the police department in the area it's stated to be in

Hello no it is not, but also it is likely if she did, the court would know, In most public service, you go to a nursing home, a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen or other place like this, and do community service, you take a paper with you and the administor of the place signs it that you worked so many hours.

Some shelters I have heard will allow you to donate a larger sum of money and they just sign the paper, since they need the money to help the poor more than you working and not wanting to be there.

So most likely while not legal , could be gotten away with

Community service is part of the punishment for a crime. Just as you cannot hire someone to do your jail time, you cannot hire someone to do your community service. If the person is not physically capable of perfecting the service, she should take the matter up with her probation officer or the judge.

That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. If you had gotten jail time, do you think you could hire somebody to do that too? Community service is a form of punishment. It is administered to teach a lesson and deter the person from doing what they did. It is a alternative to jail. You cannot get anyone to do your community service for you.

If you want the time required for your community service to get extended twice, go ahead and hire someone. Court officers do random checking if you really do community time or not.

Here in tennessee it is not legal to pay someone else to do your community service. its not legal in any state for that matter. My uncle is a judge and you will go to jail. He said it would piss him off and he would not show mercy when it came to resentencing.

Surely that can't be legal anywhere, it would be like hiring someone to serve your jail or prison sentence for you.

It would not be legal in any state and would subject both of you to further legal action.

NO IT VERY ILLEGAL , IF A PERSON IS ASSIGNED TO DO COMMUNITY SERVICE THEY SHOULD DO EVERY SECOND OF IT , AND IT THEY TRY TO PAY SOMEONE TO TAKE THEIR PLACE THEY SHOULD HAVE THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE DOUBLED.

It is their punishment and I don't think it is legal to pay someone to do your punishment.
