Bug Zapper Lights?

Ok, taking the top off the bug zapper light, you always see something that looks like a "Christmas Bulb" that is used to "activate" the Bug Zapper Bulb or Bulbs, (the large ones have two of them, like my 1.5 acre one).

They are usually located on a small plastic knob or configuration that comes directly off the transformer to the lights, and are needed to activate the "bug light".

They only light up for a second or two, then go out, and almost looks like flash bulbs, but, they are not that bright, just a small glow...

I need to know what those type bulbs are, and if I can buy a replacement type "Christmas bulb", (its what I will call it, for lack of a better term or the correct name for it)...

Where can I buy the small bulbs and what are they?

I thank each of you for your imput..

Update:

Ok, I know of the florescent tubes, that are long, and rounded that go on the "outside", I need to know the little "bulb" that goes on this "INSIDE" of the top of the housing...

Thanks so far for all those who have participated... But, not the right one yet...:)

Update 2:

cyberlegend1994 I get the part about the "can shaped device", as I am old enough to remember those, in the round florescent bulbs that a lot of people put in the kitchens from yesteryears...

Now, my question to you is, if I go and buy one of those metal tubes, (I have an electrical supply store, next to me), can I rip the can apart and that tiny "christmas bulb", starter will be in there? If so, then that solves my problem! If not, then I have to find out how I can get one, for the one side of my bug zapper, as it seems as though, the entire grid isnt energized, because I have only one bulb in it now (a two bulb system), and I havent seen a critter get zapped in it, since I put it up..hmmm

Thanks for all who have answered so far..

Jesse

Sounds like a fluorescent starter to me. This is a can-shaped device that has a small bulb in it that looks like a neon bulb but is also a switch that is supposed to close a circuit momentarily to "pre-heat" the fluorescent tube, then break the circuit when the tube is preheated, which allows it to light. If the starter fails, the tube either won't light or the tube will keep blinking on and off because the starter keeps trying to light the tube even after it's already lit.

I think they are neon bulbs. They should be available from any lighting supply store.

Trash it. They kill everything but misquitos (which are attracted to CO2 from breathing mamals whose blood they need to breed, not light). If you need to control misquitos get one of the propane CO2 generator types.

Bug lights use black lights, they are not neon, they are flourescent and you can get them at home depot or lowes.
