Vasal Vagal Syncope?

I am 32 and was dx at 19 with v.v. syncope. Is there anyone out there who is also suffering with this syndrome?

Update:

Cyndi? did your daughter do the tilt table test? They specifically told me it was syncope, does she pass out also?

Update 2:

is it a genetic disorder? can my daughters get it?

Update 3:

thank you cyndi. I've had it for 13 years but cant seem to find anyone else with it. I've been medicated for all 13 years. and always will be. I cannot stop taking it. hope your daughter is well. Thank you again.

my 8 year old daughter has it. It is called vaso vagal hypotension. She was just diagnosed with it this past spring. Can be very scary....

    good luck

Source(s): Well she was having these dizzy spells where she would get up, get dizzy and pass out!! It was very scary. They did an EEG to make sure her brain was okay but they could tell by testing her blood pressure from laying to sitting to standing. It significnatly dropped when she stood up very fast. the neurologist was very comforting however. she told us it is not deadly, just scary.... Get up very slowly, change positions slowly when you have been sitting or laying a long time.... drink lots of fluids, especially in the hot weather.. I dont think Vaso Vagal syndrome is hereditary per se, more likely hypotension (low blood pressure) would be hereditary... It is ABSOLUTELY not related to stress or eating AT ALL!!! that is false information. It has to do with low blood pressure and hydration!!!!

I have a suggestion regarding the evaluation or re-evaluation of the problem. Ask your doctor about WPW (Wolf Parkinson White) syndrome. It happens when the heart spontaneously starts racing and leads to dizziness and syncopal episodes. Racing is a simple term for the results of the different rythym. There are several young people that get it early on, mostly young girls and it gets written off early as something emotional, diet, or for other reasons. It can be fixed successfully with an ablation procedure in a cardiac cath lab. Once it's fixed it's fixed. Hope this helps. Jeff the nurse in Nashville

This is usually a reaction to stress in some individuals. This is the reaction that takes place when people faint at the sight of blood or other similar situations. This is something that can be overcome with repeat exposure to whatever caused the reaction. I fainted first time I was measured for contact lens. It is a miserable feeling. It didn't stop me from pursuing those lenses and eventually getting used to them. Syncope is another word for faint. Vaso-Vagal is the brain/blood pressure change that leads to fainting.

Source(s): seen blood donors faint at blood drives :)

Pretty much all the men in my family have had that... husband and three sons. Some worse than others.

It's when you react to something by fainting, and is usually most likely to happen when you have an empty stomach.

Just always carry a snack with you, and make sure you eat breakfast -- that's the most likely time for an empty stomach to cause that.

I had that as a child, it would also happen if I did a stretch, like when you wake up in the morning. and yes I would pass out, But by the time I was 16 it had stopped. Basically you don't want to stand up to quick and you don't want to stretch unless you are still on the bed.

I would feel it come on, my vision would go then my hearing and then I would wake up on the floor. I learned really quick that when ever I did feel it coming on that I had about three seconds to sit down.
