Doctor Why asked in HealthOther - Health · 1 decade ago

I think I have an extra nipple in my armpit. Is there a way to be sure?

I'm serious!

Polythelia (having extra nipples) occurs in as much as 5% of the population of some areas. And the nipples are often poorly formed, so they're not always obvious. It has a higher diagnosis rate in women because sometimes the only reason a woman knows she has one is that it starts trying to produce milk when she becomes pregnant!

So is there a definitive way for a male to tell without a biopsy?

Don't worry about it. It's a lot more common than you think. Only a doctor could actually tell you, and a dermatologist could confirm it, probably by just looking at it. What I understand, the population in Europe/Asia has a higher percentage of this. Just don't let it bother you......best of luck to you.

You mean a mole. If it was on your chest I would be like okay maybe, but on under your armpit its probably a mole. They are kinda similar to a nipple and some even hang. Just go to the doctor and he will burn it off.

It's a mole (if it hangs, it's called a skin-tag), and it's harmless. My sister has the same thing.
