So what is the difference in Americans learing Spanish to sell to Mexicans and the rest of the world learning?
English to sell to the US? People seem to think that someone is telling them they must learn Spanish to speak to the hispanic community, but when has anyone ever asked you to learn?
Hey angry POD, I am speaking English.
Not just selling to Mexico, but to spanish-speakers in the US.
grooming, you can choose not to put things in Spanish, just dont sell you stuff, your choice.
Alll dialects of Spanish understand one another well. Dont act like if you spoke Mexican Spanish, people from Cuba would not understand you, they would and do, ask my Cuban friend.
Zoe, I am not Hispanic, I never claimed to be. My husband and I help Mexico by taking care of his parents, bring things to his aunts, uncles, friends. I take letters and packages to and from Mexico to let friends communicate with their families. In my house in Mexico, we house his Mom, Dad, Sister, Neice and Nephew. It's a pretty big place. We have a bathroom with shower, something that they didnt have before we made our house there. I sadly cannot say that I have helped all of Mexico, though I have donated to the Red Cross there for the victims of Hurricane Stan. I cant help how you percieve me, I am just stating my beliefs.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."
UNLESS THEY ARE FROM MEXICO
(if you add this last line (from Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter) then you are simply a racist, no ifs and or buts).
Of course, Republicans are racists, they just don't admit it. They don't want to let other people into the US because they have this delusion that the US is nice and perfect just the way it is and that immigrants would screw everything up, even though history has proven that immigrants always make it better and better.
Every argument you see against immigration is just an excuse for being racist.
"they" hurt the economy, so it's cool to hate "them"
"they" are dumbasses, so it's cool to hate "them"
"they" break laws, so it's cool to hate "them"
"they" talk differently, so it's cool to hate "them"
funny that 99% of the people who make up excuses to justify their hate also call themselves Christians, considering that Jesus taught that hating other people is wrong.

Do you work for the ACLU? It sure sounds like it. I don't feel that I should have to learn to speak spanish in my own hometown just so that I can walk down the street. Do you know how many jobs I CAN"T get because I am not a fluent spanish speaker? I did take several spanish courses in college and am now choosing not to use it while I am in the United States of America. If you can't speak English to me, sorry... I can't understand you!

This is a distraction from the real issue.
The problem I have heard of is when you look only at Americans with a poor education competing against Hispanics with a poor education. I have heard of people not being hired because they didn't know Spanish to communicate with other workers, rather than requiring the other workers to know English to communicate with workers born here. Some feel it is a cover because the employers are hiring illegals and don't want to be 'found out'.
However, while my specific job title doesn't have anyone who doesn't speak English in my office, when I go to the lunch room hourly workers often switch to Spanish. If they are speaking Spanish it is hard to join in with a friendly word. For me the lack of bonding has minimal impact but for native born hourly workers who don't know Spanish, this occurs much more often.
Remember that we pay for Spanish speakers to have English lessens from the second they enter school, but due to lack of funding do NOT pay to teach a second language to our own children in the lower grades.
And remember, we are ONLY speaking of impact on the less educated Americans here, the ones who most directly compete with the illegals.

Why are you trying to act like your an Hispanic and now have become the spokes person for all illegals in the country. Why don't you tell us exactly what are you doing to help the country of Mexico. How many people I ask again reside in your house and land in Mexico? How many people in Mexico do you sponsor ?

Can you tell me why MY consumer goods have to have Spanish text also added to them? Why not cover the whole package with French, German, Russian, Polish, Dutch, Farsi, Swahili, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Thaiwanese, Korean, Portugese, Greek, Italian, Hindi, Tibetan, Norwegan, Arabic, Hawiian, Balanese, Africaans...etc...and so on. I'll tell you why, Its the Spanish speaking people that are coming here like rats deserting a sinking ship that makes Spanish more commomly spoken here. I for one expect anyone from another country to be able to communicate in English when here. If you just want our money and will not be courteous enough to learn English, Mexican Go Home!!

Personally, I don't feel that I am being forced to learn Spanish, but I resent the fact that our government and many businesses cater to Spanish speaking people - we should NOT have to "push 1 to hear English," and our government forms should NOT be printed in other languages besides English, and we should NOT have to provide taxpayer-paid translators for Spanish people in Court or anywhere else - if they need translators, they should have to provide them for themselves. Our children should NOT be hindered in their education because the teachers have to teach in Spanish to the non-English speaking students. In fact, it should NOT be a requirement for teachers in our education system to teach in Spanish. In fact, there should NOT be employment advertisements in the USA that say applicants MUST speak Spanish.

It seems like a fine system. People who do trade with mexico or spain or other spanish speaking countries should in fact speak spanish.
People are worried that other languages will somehow engulf america as though our culture wasn't strong enough to withstand it. They forget that the point of america is for the outcasts and the immigrants. America is for people who want new opportunities, and they bring their language and culture with them.

I teach English class to about 175 Mexican residents every week here in the United States. Most of my students can at least get by in a conversation if they have to, but at least 70% of them speak great English. I don't think anyone is asking that Americans have to learn the language. Some just use that as another excuse to hate Mexicans.

What is our language?
(hint)= it's not one of the various forms of spanish... Each spanish speaking country has their own version of spanish so I guess you are saying that we need to learn each dialect.
