Why do terrorists target planes?

Planes are common targets for terrorists but they target other public places too..

To answer this question u must know the motive of a terrorist!!!!

For example if they want a standoff and want to negotiate then they resort to kidnapping or hijacking of a school bus or locking up people in a confined place and then start killing slowly....

They target planes if their motive is total destruction of people and property for terrorizing in large scale, as they would create instant headlines and create fear & terror in millions of hearts...

Planes r easy to destroy and most commonly it's not the poor who die in plane crash, it's the affulent people, thus giving far reaching effects for their efforts...

If they kill 500 poor people in places like kashmir, afganisthan, chechnya, somalia, etc people will not notice in global scale...

And if 500 people are killed in a plane crash, it will be headlines for days in all the media worldover...

I'm thinking it's because of the fright factor. Many people aboard one small craft, no way to ditch a device when it is unveiled, mass panic amongst those present, huge loss of life, sensational coverage and loss on the ground. These people are trapped and can't do a thing about it. Basically, no one can intervene from the outside.

They target more than just planes. They will target anywhere with lots people be killed, even their own kind.
