What is with not being able to spell very simple words correctly, such as what or does?

I understand the longer words, but I see "dose" for "does" and "wat" for "what". These are words you learn in the first grade. Does our society take pride in how stupid we appear to be?

Definitely pure laziness! I even very very rarely abbreviate or that sort of thing even when texting. I worry what people who have a horrible habit of doing this are going to in the real word...writing a business letter with wut or wat or ur...you get the idea. Sad.

Actually, smaller words are committed to our memory while longer words are sounded out when it comes to spellings. In other words, we typically remember how ‘what’ is spelled so therefore does not require us to sound it out…unlike the word ‘opportunity’… as you hear the syllables, can't you just envision the word?.. anywho…, there is a solution which adults can practice just to get re-acquainted with simple words- just review. That is to say the next time you are at a book store, purchase a vocabulary book for 5-8 graders... If you just take the time to 'review' the words (maybe 10 minutes a day) you will be able to recall them easily the next time you need to spell them... This method is the same method used during therapy sections on patient who suffered minor brain damages during a car accident. It does work…

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with misspelling words--sometimes the reason this happens is because we're fast readers and never learned the correct spelling--sometimes it's because we're careless. Personally, I feel that misspelled words are less of a "sore thumb" than punctuation and grammatical usage. For example, when one says, "What is with not being able to spell very simple words correctly, such as what or does?" I see a problem with the use of the comma in that sentence as well as the colloquial use of the rather clumsy phrase: 'what is with'. Remember to reread before submitting and think twice before "casting stones."

I feel the same. I read an email from a friend that talked about a soldier from Vietnam rolling in his grave because he died for our freedom, and we choose not to go to school and be responsible for our actions. Almost HALF of the kids in high school this year would not be able to read the first 5 lines of the Declaration of Independence without reading at least one word wrong!

Are you talking about on here or in real life? I think on here it's just a typo or a rush to get the first answer.

In real life, I have to admit that bad spelling is a pet peeve of mine also. Chalk it up to bad educators, bad parenting, and/or overcrowded classrooms.

Spelling and grammar are apparently falling by the wayside. This is either a phase, or our language is eventually going to transform into this hideous garble that people try to call communication. *shudder*

Wow yall, enable's be truthful...whilst he first asked her, it replaced right into a sprint doubtful. even nevertheless he then defined it as "the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, earlier the Iraq conflict." there replaced right into a sparkling Bush Doctrine, and definite that's genuine for those of you who don't be conscious of. you will discover it completely defined on Wikipedia in case you do not have faith me. Some people just don't value education. They don't care how annoying their grammar is. They're lazy, and it's too much work to think. Thankfully we have a place for them: they can work at McDonald's.

Some people like to spell like that. Why? I don't know. Other times it is simple mistyping.
