Where can I purchase a good laptop for about $400.00-500.00 dollars?

Try Walmart. They sell it cheap there and they're not junk. I bought one there already and I'm getting another one in about a month. I think it's just under $500.00

Look up the Chinese company that purchased IBMs line--I recently saw some nice prices on these. Also, enquire about possible student discounts.

a brand new dell laptop is under $450 bucks. NEVER go with Compaq, it totally blows, i dont even know how they survived and got bought over by HP.

go to dell.com or ebay.com for used ones.

www.elitecomputers.net often has deals on them but they are not setup for online shopping. You basically have to call them and they will work with you on what you want. I bought my Dell XPS1210 from them for less than Dell was selling it for. They also sell compaq, hp, acer, and some others.

Gateway, Sony, and Alienware do not sell notebooks for that low of a price.

Try ebay. I would suggest Acer laptops which are reasonable with good configurations.
