Simple, Soy is a great food, Soy milk is one way to obtain it and replace Cow Milk. Cow milk is for calfs, would you drink rat milk? Cow milk is formulated to make a calf grow as a cow. I'm sure you don't want that. There are many milk substitutes. Not only soy. You should read the nutrition information on a Cow milk carton and compare it to the Milk substitutes where you buy groceries. Look for a substitute that contains Calcium (25 o 33%) and Vitamin D. You will really notice the difference when you do the switch. I'm being a bit of a hipocrite since I still use cow milk in my diet, I just want to make a point. However I have reduced its use and I have definitely seen a marked improvement in my sinus/allergy problems.

So long as its fortified, soy or almond milk can be just as good as cow's milk. A lot of people say that "we're not meant to drink cow's milk" because we're not supposed to grow into 1,200 pound cows. But honestly, once you skim the milk down, fat-free milk and soy/almond milk are almost identical nutritionally speaking. Maybe not chemically, but they both offer calcium and the same (to an extent) vitamins and minerals.

I would personally go with almond because soy can have some side-effects on hormone levels. Plus either soy/almond milk have a creamier consistency than fat-free milk all for the same amount of Calories, calcium, and other vitamins/minerals. It's a win-win.

    Soy Milk

I've been using it for the past year, and I would NEVER go back to cow's milk. Just read the labels and compare, and you'll do the same. I use the white milk for my cereal, the Vanilla milk for just drinking a glass of milk, and I love their chocolate milk. I buy the Silk brand and the WalMart brand which is just as good but about 40 to 50 cents cheaper than the Silk brand, but both are equally nutritious, with NO cholesterol and NO trans fat, and full of wonderful fiber that you will NEVER taste or feel. Try it, and think about what you're getting in higher quality protein and you'll never go back to cow's milk. And remember, I was raised on cow's milk, long before soy milk was ever heard of, and I still tell you I'd never go back to cow's milk. Soy milk is so much better for you and tastes every bit as good as any cow's milk you've ever had. God Bless you.

I have nothing against Soya milk, I drank it for a long while because I simply stopped liking milk, but then I was told that I don't enough calcium through a dairy-free diet (all dairy I have is milk and a small yogurt regularly), so I've tried switching back.

Cow milk is much healthier, or atleast research has lead me to think.

They may say Soya milk has equal calcium, but the fact is only 50-75% of it is absorbed by the stomach in comparison to cow milk.

I think Soya also has more fat, but then again I wouldn't recommend too much of either!

Semi-skimmed milk is a healthy choice for cow milk. :)

Thought I might update after some reading:

"Eating soya actually puts vegetarians at severe risk of mineral deficiencies, including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and especially zinc. According to Dr Mike Fitzpatrick, a New Zealand biochemist who runs a soya information website (see below), this is because soya contains high levels of phytic acid, which blocks the absorption of essential minerals in the digestive tract."

"Soya contains high quantities of various toxic chemicals, which cannot be fully destroyed even by the long cooking process. These are: phytates, which block the body's uptake of minerals; enzyme inhibitors, which hinder protein digestion; and haemaggluttin, which causes red blood cells to clump together and inhibits oxygen take-up and growth. Most controversially of all, soya contains high levels of the phytoestrogens (also known as isoflavones) genistein and daidzein, which mimic and sometimes block the hormone oestrogen. "

It also has interesting facts about Anti-Cancer myths, and how soya-fed babies may have penis problems and thyroid problems among other things.

"Soybeans also contain haemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance that causes red blood cells to clump together...

Soy also contains goitrogens - substances that depress thyroid function."

Personally, I like the taste of cows milk better but...unless you get pure organic cows milk, it's FULL of antibiotics (that they force feed cows) and it's full of fat. Also, soy milk lasts int he fridge a lot longer than cows milk so if you don't use a lot of milk, the soy lasts longer & is a better value.

We use both in our house. If you decide to go with soy, there are several brands that taste better than others. If you don't like the taste of one, try another. If you go with cows milk, try to get the organic kind.

I only drink Soy milk because I am lactose intolerant. It actually has more fat in it than cow milk, and calcium is better absorbed through cow milk than soy milk. Unless you have a lactose issue or you are vegan, then it is suggested you drink cow milk. Soy milk also effects hormones more than cow milk does, so overall cow milk is better for you, especially for babies.

Cows milk is safer, and overrall, is better for you. There is growing evidence that too much soy interrupts the thyroid gland's hormone production, which can interfere with development in children.

soy milk is not a milk,,,, it is actually soy juice......

for grown up, soy milk is more recommended coz it has more fiber and less fat, bla bla bla, and can be drinked by that lactose intolerant people.......

but it is harder to digest , so it is not suitable for babies,,,, cow milk too hard to digest, but it has more nutrient
