What happens when you rate an answer/question?( thumbs up/down)?
Does it count for anything?

The thumbs up and down is a way for us as community members to rate answers. We don't get points anymore, but say you are reading someone's question and all the answers that others have provided (before it goes into voting) and you see an answer that is wrong, or not helpful at all, or off topic then you can give it a thumbs down. The idea being the person who is asking the question, supposedly doesn't know the answer, and this is a way the rest of us can say "wait, no, don't believe that, it's not right" on the otherhand if someone has a great answer, you can give them a thumbs up so others know that it is a good answer. They (Yahoo) are also talking about using filters to get rid of answers that just say "thanks for the 2 points". I would give those type of answers a thumbs down since they offer no value to the question being asked.
I hope that helped.

It doesn't count. I think that the ones with a Thumbs down will get reported!

Not anymore.
When you used to vote for what you thought was a good answer, you got a point.
That was recently eliminated. What the fucntion does now is if the asker does not choose a best answer, whomsoever has the most "thumbs up" is awarded the 10 points.
