I believe they are the wholesale exploitation of children. They teach children a horrible set of values, and allow selfish retarded mothers to relive the youth they wish they had had through their kids. The entire premise is sexist and wrong. The children would be far better off learning some valuable skills rather than traveling all over the country putting on a ton of makeup and trying to look sexy at the age of six.
There is only one logical conclusion to this activity: Your child will end up a vacuous, narcissistic whore, with nothing to offer anyone but her body. If you have a girl, fill her mind with ambition to be a doctor, a lawyer, a politician, something useful. Not some sexist stereotype beauty queen with no brain. If you are taking your child to pageants you are committing child abuse.
So to answer the second question, I am against them ;)

Against, because people are not products, they're human beings! Strutting about showing yourself from every angle is just pandering to the male power structure. Some contestants think they have the power through their bodies or their sexuality, but ultimately the ones pulling the (purse)strings are the ones in control. The contestants are just expendable parts of the machine (if I can put it that way!) There is no dignity in being ogled, which IS what's happening..

I am for them, and think that the participants do so at their own free will. I wish I was good looking enough to be in a beauty pageant

If the women are 18 & over I guess its okay..although I think its a little ridiculous these days..and I do not approve of children pagents, waste of money & is derogatory to a childs mind development..not to mention exploitive..

For older women, young adult women, and teenagers I think it is just sad. Exactly what purpose does this serve to society other than to say, I'm pretty, please praise me and give me free stuff.
For children, like JonBenet Ramsey, its really creepy. Little kids shouldn't be dressed up like that. It really creeps me out. They look like little mannikin's come to life. Weird stuff.
