What did you think of Simon Crean's performance on TV at lunchtime today?
He managed to tacitly criticise the PM and Rudd as well, while stating that he wasn't going to stand for the leadership of the party but for the deputy leadership Oh ha ha! It was very clear that he was setting himself up to be chosen as leader. Have the media barons made him an offer he can't refuse? The media need control because it is obvious to a lot of people that they are completely out of control (and no matter what Ita Buttrose says about the media standing for "balance and truth" it just isn't so. She is as biased as any of them
I wouldn't like to see Crean get the leadership now, having witnessed his phoney performance today. Ambition certainly takes it's toll on us all!
2 AnswersCurrent Events8 years agoIsn't it a great thing that the Aussie government is trying to get some accountability into our media?
I for one am sick and tired of hearing about "in the public interest" being the motivation for the press destroying people's lives. Most of it is just scurrilous rubbish, purely (or should I say impurely?) designed to appeal to the inadequate or immoral, or both. The press uses it's power to jerk us around and make us think the way they want us to; prejudice and racism is rife, particularly in the print media.

Can anyone give me the recipe or a site where I can find it?

2 AnswersMilitary9 years agoWhat should I eat as a diabetic with celiac disease?
I am confused about how many calories I should eat, or even how to work out how many calories are in the food I eat. I seem to ricochet between not eating enough and eating too much. What would a healthy breakfast consist of for a person like me? (And lunch and dinner too!) If you have any useful ideas I'd love to hear them.
5 AnswersDiabetes10 years agoWhy do you think Simon Overland sacked Ken Jones?
Do you think it was because of another cultural glitch between the Aussies and the Brits? Or did Ken Jones really do something concrete to cause the sacking?
1 AnswerMedia & Journalism1 decade agoWhere can I hear the song "Learn to be Lonely" by Minnie Driver?
2 AnswersOther - Music1 decade agoWhere can I hear the song "Learn to be Lonely" from "The Phantom of the Opera" for free?
I can find the lyrics everywhere, but I just want to listen to the song again to remind myself of the music.
2 AnswersPerforming Arts1 decade agoDo you think that political correctness will cause a backlash?
We all have our ways of doing things and of being, because of the place we were brought up, but nowadays we are taught to pretend that everyone is the same (political correctness) and if anyone dares to say different they are a racist. I don't want to be a racist, I like to treat everyone the way I want to be treated, I can also see that there are such things as national characteristics. Will we end up not being able to tell the difference between what is good and what is not because we've been taught to go against what we observe about people?
3 AnswersCivic Participation1 decade agoWhat is the name of the Swedish actor from "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" who died recently?
I saw a news item about the actor dying who played one of Lisbeth Salanders mentors in the Swedish film but I can't remember his name.
1 AnswerCelebrities1 decade agoWhat is the name of that stupid Australian commentator?
at the closing ceremony of the commonwealth games who said of the schoolchildren in white, who came on to do a tribute to India "Dare I say it, they look very clean in their white"? I couldn't believe my ears! Imagine if anyone had said of Australian children "Oh they look very clean!". Just imagine how rabid Aussies would have been. Australians seem to have a problem with empathy, in that they seem to have very little of it.
3 AnswersOlympics1 decade agoDo you think Tony Abbott is serious when he says he would like a kinder parliament?
Given that he went on to say that it had not been good, particularly for the past three years Thereby taking a swipe at the Labour Party. Is that a way of making it kinder or just a bit more of the same as usual? Can he change??
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoWhere can I find a free on-line play "Can't Pay, Wont Pay"?
Lots of sites offer free on-line play scripts but when you go to them they seem impossible to find. I know there is at least one site that delivers what it promises because a few years back I read a play on-line.
1 AnswerPerforming Arts1 decade agoWhen did the anti-Indian racism start?
I have lived in Australia for 40 years and have only once heard anybody make an anti-Indian comment.
All of a sudden the Indian government is claiming that Indians are not safe here because of the racism.
You never hear anti-Indian comments on TV or in the papers (unlike the comments the English get all the time, even from our Prime ministers! ) Do you think the Indian attacks we have heard about lately are a result of the selective reporting in the Indian press. (After all most of the people who have suffered attacks were not Indians)
6 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoWhy did they make John Howard a member of the ICC?
when he has shown what a lousy sport he is. Remember the Rugby world cup and Johnny handing out the medals? He could hardly bring himself to do it, and made Australians a joke all over the world. I can't believe they would be so stupid as to bring this weak man into their committee. There are plenty of other Aussies who would be better representatives.
2 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoDo you think that thugs are choosing INDIANS to attack?
I think they would pick on anyone who looked as though they might have money or coveted possessions (and in fact they do pick on many other people) Though I do think that by declaring the attacks as racially motivated the Indian press and government have created the very thing they were supposed to be protesting against. You can't blame people for being angry if they truly believe that they are being singled out for poor treatment but they need to temper their paranoia with a smidgeon of common sensitivity. My own experience in Australia has shown me that if you complain about racism here you just get a whole heap more dumped on you. How can we combat racism without pushing the buttons of the racists? Is there a way?
7 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoWhy is everyone making so much fuss about the marriage of Edelsten and his blonde bimbo?
Does he have tons of money or something? He seems to have no charm at all, I think he must just have friends in the media who want to build him up. I thought the guy was a crook?
2 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoWhat is wrong with the Australian Liberal Party?
As soon as they get a leader who shows signs of integrity they want to boot him out. They are going to regret it if they shunt Turnbull in favour of Hockey or Abbott. (Who I USED TO respect, but now see as just another self-seeking ambitious polly) Hockey just looks like a thug. Do they want to destroy the Liberal Party, because that is looking increasingly likely?
3 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoCan pear trees get curly leaf?
My pear tree seems to have some sort of blight on the leaves that I can't find on any of the pear disease sites. It has pale slightly bubbly spots. I have a nectarine tree nearby that has a bad attack of leaf-curl (despite being treated) and I wondered if it could have caused the pear tree's problems, although it doesn't look the same as curly leaf.
