What did you think of Simon Crean's performance on TV at lunchtime today?

He managed to tacitly criticise the PM and Rudd as well, while stating that he wasn't going to stand for the leadership of the party but for the deputy leadership Oh ha ha! It was very clear that he was setting himself up to be chosen as leader. Have the media barons made him an offer he can't refuse? The media need control because it is obvious to a lot of people that they are completely out of control (and no matter what Ita Buttrose says about the media standing for "balance and truth" it just isn't so. She is as biased as any of them

I wouldn't like to see Crean get the leadership now, having witnessed his phoney performance today. Ambition certainly takes it's toll on us all!

There had been agitation in the Parliamentary Labor Party for some months about bringing Kevin Rudd back as leader. Kevin Rudd's supporters thought that he had a better chance of winning the next Federal election on 14 September than PM Julia Gillard.

In order to put this speculation to rest for some time Simon Crean decided to bring on a leadership competition by issuing a spill motion so that parliamentary members of the ALP could vote on the leadership. At the last minute Kevin Rudd decided not to stand. It is believe that he did not have the numbers to win in spite of the fact that he kept claiming that he was keeping his promise that he had made in February 2012 that he would not challenge for the leadership again against PM Julia Gillard. This made many of his supporters very angry. They thought that if he did stand some of the "nervous Nellie's" who were in doubt about PM Julia Gillard's leadership could at least have to opportunity to change sides.

In so doing Simon Crean has not eliminated Kevin Rudd as likely competition for the leadership. If PM Julia Gillard is electoral poison and a lot of the MP's don't want to be annihilated then they may turn to Simon Crean as a safe pair of hands. Why wouldn't he set himself up as a chosen leader. He does have ample experience in that area and has qualifications in economics - something that the country sorely needs right now.

PM Julia Gillard has already done away with the Media motoring legislation that was supposed to be becoming law. Everyone values freedom of speech above PC limitation on who can say what. That was the end of that. I don't agree with you that Simon Crean is phony at all. I think that he would make a very good Prime Minister. He should be given a chance by the Labor Party.

Simon Crean offered himself as Deputy Prime Minister in this footage when he called for a spill
