Why do you think Simon Overland sacked Ken Jones?

Do you think it was because of another cultural glitch between the Aussies and the Brits? Or did Ken Jones really do something concrete to cause the sacking?

According to this news article he has not done so as yet:

Sir Ken was about to turn in his report on parolee murders before Chief Commissioner Simon Overland removed him from active duty.

The Victoria Police crisis is nearing flashpoint today with Police Minister Peter Ryan to report to Cabinet this morning armed with legal advice that is expected to fuel extensive debate about what the Government can do with the top cop.

Mr Overland defiantly stared down the Government yesterday, insisting it had no basis to dismiss him despite claims he has lost its support, as well as that of the public and his force.

Government sources told the Herald Sun they were frustrated and unimpressed by Mr Overland's handling of Sir Ken's resignation, but would not speculate about whether the Chief Commissioner's future was on the line.

The Herald Sun understands that Sir Ken and Mr Overland had a conversation about the parolee scandal the day Sir Ken was marched out.

"He (Sir Ken) said police had to apologise to the families and the whole thing was a mess. That afternoon he was gone," a senior police source said.

The Herald Sun first reported that failings in the force's LEAP computer system may have contributed to seven murders committed by parolees. Sir Ken was preparing an internal report on the scandal and had made formal findings.

Sources say Mr Overland is also privately suggesting the Office of Police Integrity may be considering launching an investigation into Sir Ken over a report that appeared on Saturday about Carl Williams' death.

Sir Ken has apparently accepted the chief's decision to remove him and has no plans to consult his lawyers about his dismissal.

A spokeswoman for the OPI said it would "neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation in this matter". Victoria Police also said it could not confirm the speculation.
