Question about College?

I just quit my job at Wal-Mart, and I want to go to college. It's probably too late to get financial aid, and I can't afford otherwise. I also don't know what college I could get into right now since they are all about to start if they haven't already. Please help me?

Some colleges are still doing late registration it just depends on where you live. You actually have until December 31 to file for financial aid but what happens is most schools want the money before classes start and it wont be back in time for this semester, Your best bet would probably be to go ahead and apply for financial aid for the spring semester and you'll be ready to go this spring. * Another tip to get more money on your financial aid. If your parents make alot of money you're not going to get much of financial aid besides a loan, If you have a child then you dont have to put your parents and you get more money, Also guys have it easier becasue they can just get the birth certificate of a young child and if the mother didnt put the fathers name on the birth certificate the guy can act as if he is the childs father. Warning financial aid does do random checks every year but so many guys get away with it,

It's never too late to go to school!

My suggestion would be to check out the local Community College for this semester. They're cheaper and often their classes are easily transferable to bigger and more specific schools.

Go soon (the next business day that you can) to their financial aid office, they should have advisors who will help you apply. Many times if you are in the process of applying they will give you an extension on payment. That way, even if you don't get enough financial aid, you can take that time to save up money.

While you're taking some basic classes that will transfer, look into what school you will transfer to and start the application process this semester. Most schools require students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every January. The quicker you complete this form in January, the better your chance at grants and scholarship money.

    Good luck!

What state do you live in? You could try a state college or a community college. It is a little late, but there is still late registration which usually takes place the first three weeks of school. As to paying for school, while your registering for classes talk to the financial aid office, also the accounting office might let you do a payment plan.

Probably this late your best bet is community college, its much cheeper and you could do your GE/AA in two years then travel to a University.

Good luck and you made a very good choice.

If you're looking to go to college this fall then a local community college might still allow you to enroll even though it's close to the start of the school year. Community colleges are also fairly inexpensive in comparison to 4-year schools. Some grants and loans might still be available to you. Call the financial aid office of the school and see what if any options are still available to you at this point.

If you're unable to get in or afford it for this semester, then apply for Spring 2007. See if you can get your job back or find another job and work during fall and try to save up money which will help you with your school expenses for Spring.

Also even if you do get in for Fall after you get into the swing of school you might still want to get a part-time job to help with expenses and for personal uses.

    Good luck!

start off at a local community college, depending on where you live you can still get financial aid, you need to walk not run into the community colleges financial aide office,if you too late some even offer fee waivers and all you'll have to pay for is the health fee which is under thirty bucks!

I hope you find success wherever you choose to go.

Take another job while you apply to college for admission for the term beginning in January. This will give you time to secure financial aid, save some money, and prepare for life at school.

Pick a college, apply for fall term (most of the time you can do it online).

They will contact you to tell you what you need to submit (diploma, GED, or whatever)

But after you apply to school, go to the FAFSA website at fafsa.ed.gov and apply for student aid. As long as you're not in default on a student loan, you qualify.

There is always late egistration. Good luck!

Did you check with your local community college's financial aid department? It might not be too late, but if you really want to know, you'd better get moving on it.

Also, community colleges are not as expensive - it may be a good route to take to see if it suits you. Good luck!

  • Once someone asked me what I wanted to do and I said I would like to go to college. I went to admissions and I was in. So go talk to the college or university and get started. When it is right it all falls into place.

I was 26 when I started and it took me 6 years to finish. Loved every minute of it and would go back in a heart beat.

Education means choice and I am proud of you for giving yourself freedom of choice.

The majority of them have started or are about to start.

Also, save up for it. It's great that you want to go back to school, but student loans are going to put you right back where you started. I suggest working (not at WalMart) for 9 months, saving the money and applying it for a community college degree.
