Are appearances more important than the person?

Do people judge people by their appearance..the clothes they war..the car they drive...how much their...house costs..which location they stay in..rather than see the person behind all that.

    Yes they do.

I am highly educated, make great money, live in a good area of town. BUT what I wear to work and what I drive most would "assume" that I go home to a tiny shack and probably don't make more than $8.00 an hour.

Just due to what I am driving and wearing during the day I get people acting differently towards me than I do when I get home, change into normal clothes, etc.

When in work outfit I will get people who....

look at me and then turn and hurry and BEEP the lock on their car as I get out.

grab their kids arm and pull them close thinking I am some stalker.

not say more than hi to me if they even recognize my presence in the first place.

It is sad when people judge others in under 2 seconds by just what they are wearing or driving.

Few years ago I watched this same thing happen at a local car dealership that I was servicing. A beat up, trashed out, mud covered pick up pulls up onto the dealership and about 11 guys get out. All in cover alls, dirty, uncut hair, etc. Every salesman ran for a cig/coffee break. All but one who gladly jumped up and said...this sale is mine!

Well he was the smart one of the bunch as he saw past the dirt and scum level. What actually pulled onto the dealership was a farmer and his clan of son's. Well we all know farmers are rich...and this one was very well off.

After about 2 hours the 10 boys and the dad all drove out in brand new decked out, totally loaded, every option pick up trucks. Setting a sales goal for one day for a single salesman. Should of seen the look on the faces of the other salesmen.

To judge a book by its cover will result in the loss of the true story

Unfortunately, one must pay attention to all these superficialities in addition to having what it takes inside in order to be truly successful.

This is most apparent in the business and political world where what you wear and how you carry yourself can adversely influence your selection for key positions by CEOs or voters.

The same is true in the professions. Would you feel you were getting good medical care if your doctor wore a dirty flannel shirt with egg, cheese and drool stains on them?

There are some professions where the person isn't seen; but, because his words or artistic creations are what he produces, his public esteem depends on how you evaluate that work rather than how he looks. You may never see some of the more prolific and creative artists and still you may hold them in high esteem.

However, whenever you are in a profession that interfaces directly with your public, you must meet their expectations of you as much as you meet your own.

yes people do judge by that, but that doesn't mean its right. It depends on the kind of person you want to be. You can have everything in the world and still be a jerk. Is that what you want to be known for? Then go that way. If you want to be a good person, care about others, and be productive in your life, I think its more rewarding than having "stuff." But that is up to you.

It depends on the level of maturity.

Mature people know that the person and how they act to their fellow man makes all the difference. Immature people look toward possesions as their guide of a persons worth.

You decide which is more important in the grander scheme of things.

My vote goes to the persons actions not what they own.

The sad part of it is that there are people out there that make these type of judgements. They do not realize how mediocre they are.

There are a lot of excellent people out there that no'one gets to know because their vanity gets in the way.

    life is too short.

Those people would shudder if they knew how people like me pity them. I do great in life, not bragging, but I do not judge others,(though this looks like judgement), and people must accept me just like I am because I refuse to change for anyone but God.

Unfortunately lots of people DO judge purely by the physical stuff...that's not what matters...what matters is the heart and soul of the person..that's not too hard to figure out.

Yes, people judge by appearances, but only initially. Have you ever met someone "attractive" who became ugly to you after you got to know them? Or vice-versa, some people are not attractive at first, but once you get to know them they are beautiful.

People do judge by the first impression. However, they get to know the real person and their original perception will definitely change.

ur clothes symbolize how u view urself. if u look good then ull feel good. if u take good care of urself then other people will notice. and yes people do judge you by ur apperance before the talk to u and get to know u.
