What's this noise on my Digital 8 recording?
I used my lower-end Sony Digital 8 camcorder to record some video and I have an intermittent hissing on the sound track of the cassette. Recording over the same spot again produces the same noises.
Since this is a digital tape, is there a way I can "format" it and start from scratch? Or, is the cassette just worn out (after 2 uses) and should be thrown away?

If the noise is in the same spot after the second recording then the tape probably has a crinkle, seam, or other defect at that segment. Toss it out and get another.
If you start noticing several incidents like this then you should get your camcorder serviced promptly. It is likely damaging the tapes and will probably jam one inside before long. And no doubt it will be of that very something that you really wish you could have kept.

I've never heard of there being a 'digital tape' for digital 8 cameras. Digital 8 cameras use existing analog tapes created for analog Hi-8 and Video8 systems.
No, you cannot 'format' the tape as it is not a 'formattable' media. You can 'black' it as is done in the commercial/professional post world, but there is no need to for your camera.
Don't reuse tapes. Recording more than once on a tape, especially in a low end format like Digital 8 is not a good idea.
Unless it is an emergency, never record more than once on a tape. Just don't do it.

i'm positive you would possibly want to record an EVP with a tape recorder, yet you would possibly want to have problem having the flexibility to hearken to once you've recorded an EVP without the equipment/software to diminish out most of the 'foreground' audio to easily listen the EVP. My husband and that i take advantage of a digital recorder and when we ought to study a recording, we load it into the computer and use a software to isolate a particular element of recording the position we would listen something we ought to study out further. He filters out most of the historic past noise and then we are able to hearken to it more desirable obviously. Then we save that element of the recording if it does comprise a distinguishable EVP. it really is fairly cool once you do detect you've easily recorded a disembodied voice - slightly startling in the initiating, yet then you see existence (and absence of life) in an entire diverse way. sturdy success along with your investigating!
