I need health insurance in TX as soon as possible?

My husband and I are in school and are going to graduate in December. We just found out that he may have a gentic disorder called MEN which can cause pancreatic cancer and it causes a lot of tumor. He can get the gentic test for free but if he has it they will want to do blood work (over $1000) and an MRI (at least $10,000). He can't get the genetic test unless he has insurance first because if the insurance company were to find out he already knew he had it, they may not cover him. There is a pretty good chance he has it there are several sympthoms that point to it and his sister has it she just had surgery a few months ago. My question is does anybody know a good insurance in TX that we could get while we were still in college?

Update:

A counslor at the hospital is the ones who gave us the price so we do not know exact prices.

Here are a few companies you can contract with in Texas:

    Blue Cross

    Humana

    United HealthCare

Of course, you'll have to research them to find the price and benefits that suit you the best.

Don't get Aetna no matter what anyone says!! They are a terrible company, and don't care about their customers at all. I know from experience in the healthcare field.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I hope everything works out well for you two.

Yes, there are several good health insurance companies. You want to get some quotes and compare plans first.

Make sure to look at the coverages offered, coverage limits, deductibles, co-pays, and if there are any pre-existing exclusions in the plans.

There are a few very good online quote providers you can check with. I suggest the following two as the best providers online:

    1) InsureMe - They give you the five best quotes from top-rated health insurers nationwide. To request a free, no obligation quote Go To http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=613598&...

    2) eHealthinsurance.com - They offer side-by-side comparisons of top health insurance plans offered by leading insurers. They have more than 900,000 clients in the U.S.

I hope that helps! Take care and best of luck to you and your husband.

If you qualify in some lower income bracket you can apply for Charity care. I would try getting insurance first though, because through Charity if organizations do not pick up the tab then the state somehow becomes liable and in the end the taxpayers will be paying for it.

I'm sorry. You are not going to like this answer, but it is the straight truth.

You will not be able to get ordinary individual health insurance for your husband that covers MEN if you tell the truth on the application.

He has what is called a "pre-existing condition". That condition may allow him to be covered for everything else besides MEN but it may completely exclude him from any regular insurance coverage at all until the MEN is fully evaluated, treated, and cleared.

You may be tempted to fib on the application and not mention MEN so that you get what looks like coverage (but is not really in force). If you do that, it is called Insurance Fraud and it can have serious effects. For example, when the insurance company finds out that he had symptoms before making application, they are permitted by law to RETROACTIVELY cancel what you thought was your coverage. All they need to do is return your premium payments. The effect - you never were covered for any charges related to MEN or related to anything else (such as another illness or an injury) and you will be on the hook for any charges you have incurred. Not a good outcome. I recommend that you NOT try to scam the insurer.

But, all is not lost. you mentioned that you both will be graduating in December (and presumably getting jobs). At that time it may be possible for your husband (and you) to come under a group health insurance plan at his (or your) new place of employment. Many of the group health insurance plans (as opposed to "individual" plans I described above) feature what is called "guaranteed issue" for new hires. That means that a new employee cannot be rejected for coverage. So, he (and you) might get coverage (including for MEN) but it will require you to wait for a few months until he (or you) find employment and it may add one more important criterion to those he will use in selecting his employer. You will want to try to get employment with a company that offers guaranteed issue with no waiting period for pre-existing conditions.

You now know how important it is NOT TO WAIT to get health insurance. If you had gotten insurance before the MEN issue arose, you would be fully covered and not be dealing with all the frustration and worry you now have.

So here is a perfectly valid IMMEDIATE solution for you. It is called "short-term" health insurance. Despite his concerns and symptoms of MEN, you and your husband can get very robust coverage for eveything except any pre-existing conditions for either of you. It can start now and continue until your new group coverage takes effect. It will cover any new illnesses or injuries as early as tomorrow. It covers doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions and there is no network to deal with - go to any provider. GET COVERED! Go to http://www.wavehelp.com/short-term-medical-insuran... and click on "get a quote". This will let you buy good insurance on-line with no hassles.

    Best wishes.

My wife and i use this company that can help with a discount. I know with MRI you can save up to 90%. Here is the web site: http://www.usabenefits.org/

Hope you find something to help.

An MRI doesn not cost $10,000.00 - you will probably be looking at around $1200.00 for an MRI.
