why do dogs lick their chops when they see a treat or food?

    Same reason your mouth starts to salivate when you smell good food. They are swallowing the saliva. They also have less class than humans. We probably did the same thing as cavemen. lol

    Probably for the same reasons people's mouths start to water if they see a really tasty looking food or even the smell can do it. It's a part of the brain that triggers this response. Dogs are the same way especially if they already know what that treat or food tastes like. Good memories of great tasting food.

    It is their "nature" to lick their lips when they get hungry. It's like being in the wild again. They post up, stalk, lick their lips, then run and attack. Instincts my friend.

    They basically do this just to get a taste of what they are eating, and to test it to make sure whatever they are eating is good. That's all.
