Why are people not capable of giving an original answer?

I asked 'who was the very first person to say thanks for the 2 points here', I got exactly the answer I was expecting. Yes, it might be an obvious answer but so what? Can people not even attempt to do something that isn't obvious and possibly put some thought into an answer? Do people not realise giving the same answer as the 30 people before you makes you look moronic?

Update:

If points mean that much then give a decent answer and you might actually get 12 instead of 2 or are people to moronic to even grasp that simple fact?

may be they simply think the same way...

I saw that question and I did not answer it...

because I don't know the answer...

I don't care about the points...

don't know what you get from them...

just trying to give my opinion...

First of all this is more of a comment on the social structure of Yahoo Answers. Why do people answer the same as 30 above them, maybe the answer could be that the question being answered only has one answer and can only be answered in the way it was answered no matter how many people answered the answer to the question. Secondly what has happened many times to me is while I am filling out the form 10 answers were submitted that matched closely to each other even though I was unaware anyone else was filling out the form. I also believe that people looking moronic is only correct when they ask questions they already know the answers to or answer incorrectly. If 30 people want to say the same thing on this website for whatever reason when answering a question, let them otherwise you will have 29 wrong answers.

Did anyone say; "Thanks for the two Points"?

Sometimes people just want to answer. Not have to think hard when it a simple answer, especially when you can copy off someone. I do admit the same thing over and over can get monotonous.

Sometimes people feel more creative in their answers. After a few beers, maybe a joint or Hallucinogenics they can come up with some really strange, yet, entertaining answers.

Then sometimes they have the Vulgar, Obnoxious, or Demeaning answers. Some of those can even have their day and make someone laugh.

So, I guess when we ask a question we must expect the obvious. Hope for the creative. Not be offended with the vulgar. This shows true intelligence.

    What are you looking for?

It seems to me that people were answering your question. There are names (which are probably imaginary - and therefore original). And honest answers - "I don't know".

To say thank you is only polite.

An original question on the other hand, often promotes original answers:

    * Avoiding, questions that avoid "yes/no/I don't know" answers is a good start.

    * Also asking for opinions & RESPECTING opinions that are different to yours can encourage good responses. (Calling people moronic is not the best way to ask people to take your questions seriously)

    * Using "WHY?.." as you just did, can also encourage people to think about their answer.

    * IF... is another great question word.

Good luck. I hope you find what you are looking for.

When you ask a question like that, for that purpose, how can you complain about people who give an obvious answer for the 2 points? That doesn't make them moronic, it makes them points hungry.

Usually, if I see that the answer I wanted to post has already been posted, I give it a thumbs-up and move on. I agree that it doesn't make much sense to just repeat what everyone else has said. One thing to consider, though, is that sometimes when the question is new, it takes a while to type and submit the answer, and by the time you do, there might be several identical responses already posted.

  • Ha ha ha! I am usually original! I don't even like it when "I" repeat words, phrases, etc.! You should see when I am writing an actual document! Why don't I use a Thesaurus?? No idea! Instead... I sit there racking my brain sorting through words until I find the perfect one! It's quite tiring actually!

The moronic thing is that you keep asking the same question so that we can continue to get the 2 points. Is it gratifying for you, or are you really moronic?
