I was asked this Question by a friend: Did Jesus laugh?

He told me that the Vatican had a research which confirmed that Jesus never laughed.. The basis was that laughter comes when something funny & unexpected happen.. Jesus knew everything overhand, so he smiled in his life, but never actually laughed!

Did anyone hear of this?

Personally I think this is a no brainer. Of course He laughed...He laughed all the time. He was a human for goodness sake. Even God laughs and even has a great sense of humor. Don't be fooled into thinking that humans came up with laughter and humor. God is the funniest, wittiest person you could ever know because if you think about it, we laugh at comedians because what they say is very true. Jesus is the truth, so there you go. If there is one thing Jesus is not, Jesus is not boring...trust me. Us humans are the boring ones and boredom originated with us.

The vatican comes up with a lot of things that are just not true. Who created laughter? Jesus!! So don't you think the One that created it would use it? Of course Jesus laughed, a lot more than is recorded. I am sure when he saw some child playing and doing crazy stuff, He had a good laugh watching them as He did when some of the Apostles did some of the dumb things they did. I can know what is coming as in a punch line and still laugh about it. Does it make it any less funny if you know what the punch line is? Don't believe Jesus never laughed as I am sure he still laughs today at some of the stupid things we do every day.

I'm convinced otherwise, that Jesus would have laughed. He was born into this world and was man as well as God with all the emotions attached to the human side. He was compassionate and "let the children come onto to me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of heaven." I picture Him as one the children gravitated toward...and a laugh with their pure souls would make the children keenly at ease that all was well. He was a man of sorrows; Jesus wept; and we also read His first miracle was at a 'happy' occasion with a wedding. Although the Bible doesn't even spell out whether Jesus ever ate dessert or not, John writes that there was too much that happened that could ever be contained in writings. My point is the Bible is a guidebook for us vs. getting bogged down and sidetracked on particulars. We certainly know that Abraham and Sarah laughed, given that their son Isaac's name means "laughter." I choose to view human nature for what it is -- we were made in God's image and HE said it was all good...and laughter can be a positive emotion.

The Bible never records that Jesus laughed. But it does say that God laughed, and Jesus is the exact representation of the divine nature. When we see that the children were attracted to Jesus, we could infer that he was a joyful, laughing person. I don't like the Vatican's dry definition of what provokes laughter. I "expect" monkeys, otters, penguins, children, to do silly things, but I still laugh at their behavior. I also think Jesus certainly mocked the religious people in his day...the sarcasm is lost a bit. Straining at gnats and swallowing a camel. Having a log in your eye while criticizing the speck in another's. It's not explicit, but I think he laughed for sure...and absolutely he belly laughed as the son/sun came up on "Easter" morning!!!

No. Watch the movie The Gospel of John, someone understood Divinity and portrayed a more realistic Jesus. The writers of the Gospels were not writing to entertain. In fact, maybe it would seem kind of silly to them to write that Jesus laughed, since it was a very natural thing to do. Don't you think they shared many laughs together? Humanity is quite funny.

The only kind of 'research' you can do on whether Jesus laughed is read the Bible. It doesn't say he did laugh, but what child never laughs? Jesus was a very caring, emotional person and there's no reason to believe he didn't laugh. The Bible doesn't say that he ever ate a fig either, but it doesn't really matter, does it?

Jesus was obviously a very special person with a special purpose on this Earth. But he was also human. He shared many moments of humor with the people around him, I'm sure he was laughing. Perhaps he didn't laugh out loud, just a quiet chuckle, who knows. I like to think of him having fun and laughing with everyone.

I think this is another made up story by the church. Jesus was just an ordinary man. Why shouldn't he laugh?

I don't know where it says so, but I think He would def laugh. Laughter is music of the soul...
