Don't you hate it when someone skips over your answer to award "best answer" to someone else...?
...when the question is something like "What is the capital of Mississippi?" You are the first to answer, and answer correctly, by stating "Jackson." Then another person answers "Jackson" after you, and HIS answer is selected as the "best answer."

That is very unfair, but many users go by the look of the picture, or maybe the other answer sounded more "cool" etc...but people here need to be fair and play fair.
Yahoo! Answers is in a small crisis due to many users who don't understand the purpose of this site. Many users think this site is just for gaming but it's not, it's to help out and to choose the first correct answer :)

Maybe the person asking a question doesn't want other posters assume the only reason they chose the first answerer as the "best" because they were first. So they opt for the second, third or tenth person answering.

Yes, it does seem unfair. Happens a lot and doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it.
You can try adding a short note to your answer that clarifies your answer. For instance, if you answered just Jackson, then add something interesting about Jackson that would draw attention to your answer.'

Yes. And it annoys me when people award Best Answer to someone they know, even if the answer is WRONG, instead of to the first correct answer.
And I sometimes wish I could award more than one Best Answer because I often get many GREAT answers to my questions.

Yes, I find it not only frustrating, but, mind-boggling. I would assume, it, at times, is simply, "the luck of the draw!"....

Well it is frustrating but it's not like we are getting any money for this or anything. I don't let it get to me.
